I just watched the Mobile Apps are Dead presentation and immediately wondered if and how we might take advantage of this new platform to integrate with our Azure hosted databases and also with our corporate Office 365-derived Windows Azure Active Directory (WAAD) tenant.  Doubtless, given the modular nature of the Telerik Platform, such integration with Azure is somehow possible.  But one wonders if it is easy to configure, if it is officially supported by Telerik, and if it is available as an out-of-the-box experience.  If WAAD integration isn't available now, does Telerik plan to make such integration possible in the future?  If WAAD integration is available now, does the integration support pass-thru authentication for users who are accessing sites from inside the corporate firewall?

Also I'm curious to know which database Backend Services uses?  I confess to not yet having spent much time sleuthing through the documentation.  But so far my search for an answer to that question has been unfruitful.  And this question is related to the first question in that if we can host Backend Services databases in our Azure tenant, then would want to integrate that data with our Azure-hosted BI databases.

Thanks!

Hello Calvin,

We are actively building a feature that will allow you to connect a Telerik Backend Services project to an existing database (MS SQL, Oracle, etc.). It is planned to be delivered soon. We are currently assessing the performance and reception of several scenarios. The use cases that you have described are among them, but currently we cannot announce the final specifications of this feature.

Telerik Backend Services offer out-of-the-box methods for user management with AD FS authentication. In the case of WAAD, this authentication is supported with passive federation and will be available only in web and hybrid mobile applications.

Telerik Backend Services are built and running on a MongoDB database.

Let us know if any further questions arise.

Fantastic, glad to learn that authentication with our on-premises Active Directory is possible via ADFS.    But this provokes an additional question: Is support for Workplace Join for Telerik Platform apps available now or on the roadmap?
