I too support the idea of having a VS add-in but I'd also like to hear if there are any plans to incorporate support for creating native Windows Phone 8 and Windows Metro Apps as well as providing the ability to deploy to the Microsoft Store.

Is this something that is down to the Cordova roadmap, or do you have any plans yourselves?

Regards

Ben

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your feedback. As you know Telerik has deep investments in Microsoft's technology stack so supporting WP8 and Win8 is definitely on our roadmap. However when we decided which platforms to support first it was kind of natural choice for us to support the current dominant platforms - iOS and Android. We do believe that Windows (Phone) 8 will be a player in this space and we will do our best to boost its ecosystem as well.

Regarding Cordova, they have recently announced support for WP8 and they do support Win8.

Hope this helps,
sdobrev

Hello David,

We do not offer Windows (Phone) 8 support yet and this feature request is still part of our Roadmap. You can keep an eye on the Icenium release notes for new features we have introduced with each new version.

All the best,

I too have been watching for Windows 8 Support, and I hear discussion of Windows 8 Mobile - will this also support native Windows 8 apps on the Surface/Tablets? As with iOS and Android, I can support both phone and tablet devices.  Secondly - I can no longer find the roadmap, though I had seen it before. The link posted above no longer works.  Thanks

Hello Del,

The RoadMap is currently in process of update and once we outline what would make it for the next release we would make it visible again.

Our planned support which is realistic by the end of the year is for Windows Phone 8 at this point.

Steve

So support currently is only for Android and iOS correct?
I hate saying this, because I do think that Icenium is an really awesome product because of the large adoption of Cordova based products, but with a lack of support for BB (I know), and Windows Phone 8 and Windows Metro Apps, the competitors have a huge leg up on you guys in terms of broad developer support.
The product is awesome, the IDE is slick and so is Mist, which I absolutely think is phenomenal, and the ability to not have to jump through hoops to developer for the iPhone, thank you for that, makes Icenium a great product.

I really want to promote it by eventually doing tutorials to spread it across the web.  Pushing more exposure to use this stuff would be great.  Even in other circles such as the PHP or Ruby world, since Telerk does most of their add-ons for .Net.

I would also like to voice my support for Windows related stuff, and Blackberry.  My app really requires all smartphone coverage.

We just published our new app to Google, and we're waiting on the final review in the apple store.  The Icenium environment was an incredible help in building it.  We spent over a year with two student developers building in Objective-C and Java, and built an app with very limited functionality.  We completely rebuilt the app in 3 months with one developer using Icenium!!!

The only down side - now I have to give a "fuzzy" response to any Windows 8 users on when we can support them. (but it would not have any better in our old environment).  The Icenium "roadmap" has been offline for some time. Any idea when Windows 8 will be a publishing option???

Hi Glenn,

Thank you for the words of praise - much appreciated!
As for your inquiry, the answer from my previous reply still stands - the earliest possible that we could introduce Windows Phone 8 support would be the end of the year.

Just as a follow up. When you say Windows Phone 8 support are you also including Windows Surface Tablet as well?

Thanks,
Jesse

Hi Jesse,

From PhoneGap/Cordova point (see their platform guide), there is only Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 (no RT). Icenium aims to introduce support for Windows Phone 8 by the end of the year, we have no plans for Windows 8 at this time.

@Jesse,

Windows 8 RT or Windows 8 apps are pretty much already written in Javascript and HTML. That is allure and an understated allure of the new Windows 8 app platform.  Windows phone on the other hand is another beast.

But if you want to do the Windows 8 app there are other ways of course.  Cordova has some base libraries that you may be able to retrofit into Icenium.  I haven't tried it yet.  Or you could just look at the Windows 8 development guides. MS has their own calls to their own WinJS libraries so something like Icenium for a Windows 8 RT or app project isn't really needed.  Just use Visual Studio for the Windows 8 apps.

Though I am happy to see Windows Phone 8 apps coming to Icenium for the build once deploy multiple.
Windows Phone 8 apps can be turned into Windows 8 tablet apps with just a few lines of code.
And it looks like there is news that Microsoft will be combining Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 apps into one store.
