After installing the latest MVC package (Q1.2011.414) I started getting strange errors when trying to create a new project in VS2010 Pro.
This happens on any MVC (2,3) version and with any language (VB, C#).
I even tried on different VS2010 - one with and one without SP1 - smae problem. Attached are screenshot of what I'm getting.
I also tried to do the "clean" install - wiped out all Telerik installations, wiped out %applocal% Telerik folder, wiped out Common7\IDE\Extemnsion\Telerik folder, made a fresh install of just the latest version. Nothing changed.
Existing MVC projects (I have Telerik MVC3 Razor project created with Q1.2011.1.315) run fine - I just had to manually replace the scripts and css files.
Any clues are appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi Andriy,

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. We already got some more reports about this error, but we are unable to reproduce it so far. We are trying to reproduce the error both with machines having SP1 and not having SP1 installed on Visual Studio 2010. To my regret we don't have the problem reproduced yet.

Can you help us some more please?
Here are some details I think might help us discover the problem quicker:
  • Can you run Visual Studio with logging enabled and send us the log? (Visual Studio 2010 Command Prompt -> devenv /Log; The log file consists of ActivityLog.xml and ActivityLog.xsl, located in the %appdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0 folder)
  • Do you have other versions of Visual Studio on the machines?
  • Did you have other versions of Visual Studio installed to the machines earlier, or was VS2010 setup after a clean install of the OS?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kind regards,
Erjan Gavalji

Perhaps this might help:

I am having the same problem in that I cannot create  Telerik MVC 3 Razor project or any other Telerik MVC Project with 1_414 however I uninstalled it and reinstalled 1_315 and it works again.  The errors I get were related to a missing function in the VSX. I only have 1_315 loaded and none of the previous version and using VS 2010 with the following info:

In addition here are 2 screenshots of what errors occur when attempting to create or upgrade to a telerik mvc 3 razor project AFTER upgrading to 414.
I hope that is enough to help troubleshoot.

I think I might have a handle on the issue.  If you go into C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Telerik (I'm on a 64-bit system) you will find a directory named "Telerik WebUI VSExtensions".  I am guessing there is a VSX dll in this directory which conflicts with the MVC extension directory.  If you MOVE this directory to your desktop you will see that the MVC stuff works again however you have lost all references and templates to the standard WEB UI kit.  I have not had a chance to track down the offending DLL but I'm hoping with this post the Telerik guys can home in on the problem and resolve it quicker.

Hi Eugene Martinez,

We finally managed to identify the problem. It happens because of the different versions of the MVC VSExtensions and AJAX VSExtensions (these get both loaded inside the Visual Studio AppDomain and some kind of a type resolve problem occurs).

We are now working to find the best solution for the problem.
In the meantime, please install the VSExtensions I attached hereby.

You shouldn't have any problems with the Upgrade of MVC projects and Creating a new MVC projects after installing them.

How to get rid of this:

Package Installation Error
The project template has a reference to a missing Extension. Could not find an Extension with ID "Microsoft.VisualStudio.10.MVC4.TemplatePachages-ENU"

while trying to setup an MVC4 telerik web application using Templates?

Hello Cesare,

Sorry for the inconvenience.
Unfortunately our templates currently don't support ASP.NET MVC 4 RC. As a workaround you can create a standard MVC 4 application and then convert it to Telerik one. You can find more information about converting projects here: http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-mvc/visual-studio-extensions-creation-and-configuration-wizard.html (look at the Project Conversion Wizard section).

Thanks for answering and for the workaround, I will try.
Any chances ASP.NET MVC 4 RC will be covered in next future (within september) ?

Cesare

No, it does not solve the issue. Moreover I got an update (2012 q2 622), but once I tried to find the package to install it again when needed, it was impossible to find. Anyone has a link at it?

I am also getting this on a fresh install from the OS up.  I can create an MVC4 only when telerik MVC is not installed.  This affects both the MS standard and Telerik versions of the MVC 4 (Razor) sites.
Uninstalling Telerik MVC is the only fix for now to create either.

Update: once I have created a default MVC4 app, I can reinstall telerik and perform the in place upgrade successfully.

Hi,

The issue was due to our templates not supporting ASP.NET MVC 4 RC. But the support is already implemented and it is available in our latest release of VSExtensions for MVC. You can get the latest extensions version through the Visual Studio Extension Manager, following the steps:

  1. Run Visual Studio as administrator
  2. Open the Extension Manager (Tools -> Extension Manager...)
  3. Remove the Telerik MVC VSExtensions
  4. Select the Online Gallery tab
  5. Type telerik in the search field
  6. Redownload and install the Telerik MVC VSExtensions

Let me know if that helps.
