"Telerik undefined" in Subweb

Hi Telerik,
I have a strange behaviour when implementing Telerik in an SharePoint application ( http://rootweb/_layouts/myapplication).
Running in Rootweb all works perfect, but when running in a subweb (http://rootweb/subweb/_layouts/myapplication), the message "Telerik is undefined" pops up. In the local web.config (http://rootweb/_layouts/myapplication/web.config), the assembly is registered ("Telerik.Web.UI, Version=2008.2.723.35, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=121fae78165ba3d4").
Where is the difference?
