Hello,

Now that a new report server is out what are the steps to update the current version? Do I just replace the files on IIS with the new ones?

I looked in the FAQs and documentation and didn't see any mention of the preferred method.

Hi,

There are no special steps for the upgrade. You have to simply run the new installer and it should uninstall the previous version and install the new one.

Let us know if you experience any problems during or after the upgrade.

Chavdar,

 I guess I am missing something. I downloaded the new version on my workstation with the Telerik control panel. It dropped the web application and the service on my drive: C:\Program Files (x86)\Telerik\Report Server

 

I don't see an installer. When I first "installed" the report server I made a new website in IIS, and installed the service on the same machine. I think I made some adjustments to the web.config as well.

Maybe I am missing a download for the installer?

Hi,

Telerik Control Panel downloads the proper Windows installer (.msi) for the Report Server and runs it through its shell. After the installation has finished two shortcuts should have been created on your computer: Telerik Report Server Manager on the desktop and Report Server Manager in the Start menu. Try to launch the application from one of these shortcuts and let us know whether it runs correctly.

Chavdar,

 Thanks for your help. It was installing it on my local machine, not my IIS server. I assume if I install the Telerik Control Panel on my server it would work fine.

Can I get to the MSI the control panel downloaded, or instructions to manually install so I can run it on my QA server? I would not want to install the Telerik Control Panel on my QA and production servers.

Hi,

You can download only the Report Server installer from Your Account -> Products & Subscriptions -> Trials -> Report Server -> Download -> Automatic Installation.

Currently there are no instructions for how to manually upgrade the server as we rely on the installer to do this task as it is not quite trivial.

In your case, if you have already manually deployed the report server and started its Windows service then it will be best to stop and unregister the Windows service first and then proceed with the installer. After starting the Report Server Manager on the first page set the same storage location as for the previous installation.

Let us know if you still experience any troubles with these suggestions.
