It seems several of my developers have to spend several days trying to get new versions of your controls to work. I tried myself tonight and experience the same problems as they have. It is a very frustrating experience.

I have a brand new 64 bit Vista machine. I installed version 2009.2.701.20 and when I drag ANY of the controls into the designer I get this error...

Could not load file or assembly 'Telerik.Web.UI, Version 2009.2.701.20, Culture=neutral.......' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the specified file.

Now, it installed without error and my brand new project have that version of the dll in the bin folder. I've spent hours Googling for solutions to this problem and nothing seems to work.

The controls themselves are great IF (big if) you can get them installed and working. When I download an update from you guys I should install it and be able to use it out of the box. I'm tired of wasting my time with crap like this.

Hello Craig Smith,

This error may occur if you are using Visual Studio 2008 without service pack installed. The details about this error message are outlined in this blog post.

If this is not the case (you have installed VS2008 SP1) please check the following:
  1. Telerik.Web.Design.dll  2009.2.701.20 is installed in GAC.
  2. The version of the Telerik.Web.UI.dll assembly (which should be in the bin folder of your web site) is exactly the same - 2009.2.701.20

I hope this helps,
Albert

Thanks  Albert

Reading the Blog was worth the effort.

"..... Visual Studio 2008 had a problem with loading GAC-ed design-time assemblies of control libraries deployed in the BIN folder of a web site."

It has saved the day for quite a few, including me.
