Hello Dan,
You have correctly noticed we uploaded VS Extensions v.2011.3.1116 in the Visual Studio online gallery, whilst versions in the product installers are a few days older. What we did is basically upload the same VS Extensions with a different version number.
The cause for performing such an upload is simply maintaining all of our VS Extensions sets with the same version number. The benefits of maintaining the same version number between VS Extensions are:
- Lower memory usage - as most assemblies in our VS Extensions packages are shared for all of them, maintaining the same version ensures Visual Studio loading them once and only once
- Avoiding version conflicts within Visual Studio
I hope this clears up the confusion. Let me know if any further questions arise.
All the best,
Andrey
