Roadmap
Telerik plans to simultaneously-ship RadControls for Silverlight with Visual Studio 2010.
For the upcoming Q1 2010 release we will be placing a focus on improving and further streamlining our current product offering, which will focus in several areas-
- Performance – By both streamlining our templates and reducing assembly size, your applications will benefit from performance gains without sacrificing functionality. This won’t only benefit you as a developer, it will surely be noticed by your end users as loading times decrease and responsiveness increases
- Visual Studio 2010/Blend – We are working to bring further support for the designers in Visual Studio 2010, not only to fix reported issues but to further enhance the design experience. Not only will this mean increased compatibility, but also a move towards implementing a common Smart Tag to all controls
- Theme and Animation Enhancements – The teams are hard at work ensuring that all themes across the suite are consistent and that animations are consistent and provide a rich look and feel to your applications
- Silverlight 4 Support – Following our current course, we will continue to provide support for the Silverlight 4 beta and are working closely with Microsoft to ensure compatibility with the latest advancements in the framework, allowing you to build next-generation Silverlight apps utilizing Telerik controls.
New Controls
Transition control
This new control will allow you to create transition animations that will appear upon changing the content of the control. It will also provide an extended animation framework that can be used to customize the animations of existing controls, such as Menu, ComboBox, Docking, etc., allowing you to provide a richer look and feel to your RIA with minimal effort.
Note: This is still a
codename and might be changed for the official release.
New RadEditor based on Silverlight 4
During this quarter we will be working on a brand new editing engine that will later be implemented in our new RadEditor for Silverlight 4. A Beta preview of this control can be expected later this year. We will keep you posted as the development progresses.
Our goals for the first Beta version are to be able to include support for:
- Basic Text Formatting - paragraph alignment, text decoration, etc.
- Import / Export to XAML, TXT, XHTML and/or DOCX
Controls Enhancements
RadGridView
Built-in Paging UI
A built-in paging UI is an incredibly useful feature that allows you to present a large dataset in a more manageable way. The new data pager for RadGridView will provide you with the ability to implement paging out-of-the-box and provides you with a navigation interface to sort through your data quickly and easily. Now you will have the choice between utilizing the brand new paging functionality and the lightning-fast virtualized scrolling that RadGridView already offers for larger datasets.
RadChart
Data Analysis and Performance Optimizations
The
Q1 2010 edition of RadChart will be able to handle millions of data
points very quickly thanks to its new
Virtual Scrolling and
Data
Sampling mechanisms that are currently being developed. The advanced
Data Sampling API will allow you to use your own sampling functions to
generate sampled charts in the best possible way for your application.
RadScheduler
Based on community feedback, we have begun working on implementing
UI Virtualization in RadScheduler to allow for the display of a large number of appointments without any hits to performance. This will let you spend more time utilizing the features and functionality of RadScheduler and less time managing how you will display a growing number of appointments for your users. Beyond that, we are also working to enable
dragging and dropping of appointments
between resource groups, allowing you to quickly re-assign resources without ever having to open an appointment.
RadMap official release
The official release of RadMap will introduce numerous improvements and fixes as well as a
WPF version of the control:
- OpenStreetMap provider and custom provider extensibility options
- BingMapsProvider Birdseye view support
- BingMapsProvider integrated search / routing API
- Databinding support
- Minimap UI control
- Improved KML support
Other
TreeListView to remain in CTP state
Thanks to the feedback we gathered from our community, we realized that you need a control that will reuse the majority of our RadGridView’s features. Hence, the official release of this control will require lots of work to be done on its new features and advancements. This will inevitably lead to introducing breaking changes in the control’s API.
We will be targeting Q2 2010 to officially announce the new RadTreeListView control, and we strongly encourage continued community feedback to ensure this control meets the needs of our customers when it is released.
Meanwhile, we will keep on addressing major bugs (in the current RadTreeListView implementation) that are reported by our customers, especially when these bugs appear to be show-stoppers.
Our release plans have been always synced with your needs. All improvements and new functionalities planned for Q1 2010 are coming in direct response to customer feedback.
We welcome all of your feedback and suggestions:
