Common for All Controls

  • Appearance
All Telerik skins now get a major facelift for greater consistency and appeal across skin elements such as rows, buttons, headers, selected states, disabled states of items, etc. Since this enhancements require certain CSS interventions (removing excess CSS, changes to the CSS naming conventions of the controls to better support nested RadControls) if you have custom CSS you need to update it. For more details, read this blog post from Telerik Sr. Developer Tervel Peykov.

Telerik skins

You can see the refreshed skins and apply them to most of the ASP.NET AJAX controls examples in our Online Demos Framework. Simply choose a skin from the drop down in the top right corner of every example.

Visual Studio Extensions for RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX

With Q1 2009 RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX introduce a new level of developer productivity with the Visual Studio Extensions package for RadControls - a set of ready-to-use Visual Studio templates that cover common application scenarios. The Extensions package automatically creates your projects in seconds, eliminating the need to configure them manually.

This is the initial release of the Visual Studio Extensions package, which is currently available as a separate installation. The VS Extensions package comes in help when you:

  • Create new Telerik project (WebSite or a WebApplication) - RadControls VS Extensions resemble the standard Visual Studio project templates and contain all the preliminary set of items need for your application with RadControls–configured web.config (to support any RadControl) , RadCompressionModule (enabled or disabled through the wizard), a global site-wide skin for the RadControls. You can also choose whether your web form will use the embedded jQuery support or will use the AJAX functionality.

  • Convert your existing project to Telerik project - You can easily convert any website or web application to Telerik project in which you want to jump-start using RadControls. Additionally, you can do the same for your existing Telerik Web apps –configure the global web settings and/or upgrade the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX it uses.

  • Create RadControls application/web form – To facilitate your development we have isolated the most common scenarios with major controls from Telerk AJAX suite (Grid, Editor, Scheduler, Treeview). Now you can choose from a library of predefined page templates and eliminate your work from scratch. For example, with just a few clicks you can add a TreeView with client-side enabled drag and drop to your page. You don’t have to set any properties, and configure your page: simply follow the VS Extensions wizard, which automatically does it for you.

HTTP Compression Module

HTTP Compression Module

RadCompression is a HttpModule that ships with RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX that is designed to automatically compress your AJAX and Web Service responses. The compression process is completely transparent to your client-side code (JavaScript or Silverlight) and your server-side code. It simply reduces the number of bits that must be sent over the wire (from your server to your client) and thus- in theory- improves your page performance.

RadScheduler Icon

RadScheduler

With the Q1 release RadScheduler gets unique client features resulting in major performance enhancements. You will be able to bind it directly to Web Services allowing you to perform some operations on the client such as add/remove appointments. In this mode all operations are forwarded to a Web Service for processing using JSON calls for data transfer. This completely eliminates the need for postbacks and improves server load and bandwidth usage. With all these Client-side improvements RadScheduler is now ASP.NET MVC-ready
