Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends is an annual report that is highly anticipated in the tech industry. The 2014 report was announced at the 2014 Code Conference and it continues to emphasize the rising importance of mobile in our everyday lives. As smartphone and tablet adoption is continuing to grow, the importance of delivering rich mobile experiences is becoming more prevalent.

The market is reacting to the need for rich mobile experience with a shift from multipurpose mobile apps towards standalone and single purpose mobile apps. Single purpose apps aim to deliver the best user experience for a specific task rather than a number of tasks. The best example of this shift is Facebook's recent efforts to create a standalone messaging app by requiring its users to download Facebook Messenger to chat on mobile devices. Facebook has also announced the launch of Paper app which aims to deliver the best reading experience of News Feed stories and articles about the user's favorite topics.
