As covered in http://www.uvm.edu/~jgm/wordpress/?p=85 there appears to be an issue where by in order for users to create a site that activates the RAD Editor for Lists, the user needs to be granted Read/Write access to the following files:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\CONTROLTEMPLATES\RadEditorList.ascx
and
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\RadEditorFeature\RadEditorList.ascx

This is far from ideal from a security point of view...

Are there plans to address this in either the Lite or Full SharePoint RAD Editors?

Hello,

We have changed the feature receiver class to handle the "access is denied" error. This way, you be able to activate the editor feature even if you are logged in with an unprivileged account. The new 4.4 RadEditor for MOSS will include this fix.

However, you should know that activating the feature with a normal user will not copy the file. This means that you must either manually copy the file before users start creating their sites or you need to activate the feature with an administrator once. After that you should have no more problems as the file will only be deleted when you retract the editor solution.

Best wishes,

Thanks Lini - that's great.

For clarification, the latest version of the RAD editor for SharePoint seems to be 1.32.  How does this relate to version '4.4' and when will '4.4' be released?

Thanks,
Stuart.

Hello,

The current version is 4.32 (I think it is mislabeled on the site). 4.40 should be out in a few days. We were supposed to release it at the beginning of this week, but we ran into some issues when testing so the release was postponed.

Best wishes,
