Hi,
I have just been experimenting with the Open Access ORM to see if it suits our needs. (Mostly good so far!)
One aspect we are considering is whether the ORM solution we choose will allow us to run the final application on Mono (unconfirmed but this may take the form of multiple winforms applications and ASP.NET websites sharing a core domain / ORM library). I had a quick attempt at getting the examplesWeb35 project to work through the Windows XSP server and encountered the following error message:
I also tried running the ExamplesWin[35] exes through Mono - nothing happened.
Having not used Mono before, I'm not certain about where best to start diagnosing this. Both the ASP website and windows application work fine when run through the VS2008 debugger.
Any idea what might be wrong?
Is it maybe something specific to the example projects that prevent it from working? I could start my own Open Access project from scratch if you think there is something in the example projects that may be problematic.
Should I persevere or is there no just chance of getting the current version of Open Access running on Mono?
Has anyone ever got Open Access to work on Mono and is it likely to be a supported platform in future?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Mono is not supported at the moment. We have to cleanup some code in our runtime system before it is possible.

Hi Jan,
Thanks for replying. Any idea when this code cleanup may be complete? Is it going to happen in the next release or is it not even on the radar yet?
Thanks,
Chris

Hello Chris,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Even the code cleanup might be done pretty soon, we have not put Mono support on the OpenAccess Roadmap yet. So if we see enough votes here for this Mono Support Request, we will take it into consideration when we plan Q3.
Thank you for your understanding.
Best wishes,

I'm interested in the option of using your ORM on mono. You mention 'votes', but I didn't see anything to indicate my support. I came across this trying to find info about your supposed mono support with the rad ajax components, but all I've found so far is old press releases.
can you point me?

Hello Gregg,
Thank you for your request. Your post is a vote, so we don't have a poll going on right now but notice Mono support request for OpenAccess here. It is on our list to look into this soon.
The entry point for Telerik Mono support is mono.telerik.com.

I did see the mono.telerik.com site, but it isn't apparent that there is any documentation related to using the controls on mono; it just looks like your demo site. that's great that you're running it on linux (I was getting 503 errors on the site a day or two ago for several hours), but it doesn't help me... when I run the mono migration tool, I get hundreds of errors from your dll. do you have instructions or guidelines about implementing on mono?

Hi Peter
I'm also very much interested in Mono Support for ORM (and the reporting runtime). I see that Postgres support is already on the roadmap for Q3, that's great
Thanks,
Stefan Csomor

Hello Stefan Csomor,
Thanks for your vote concerning Mono.
Concerning your comment about Postgres: Yes, it is on the database Roadmap, but based on customer demand, we will do others first. So Postgres won't make it for Q3, but should come soon after.
Thanks for your patience.

So are you shooting for mono support in the upcoming Q3 release? If so great, I am also looking forward to that. If you plan to have any beta testing, please include us on your list.

Hello bill,
We will not be targeting Mono for Q3 so far. What we will do as an intermediate step though, is to report the problems found with the database drivers under mono, so to have the Mono guys working on them. Prior to targeting Mono we need some things fixed in mono which are now not as polished as they should be.
Kind regards,

Hello All,
Petar
the Telerik team
This is an important feature for us and we will definitely be looking into the possibility to add support for it in the future. I am afraid, however, that I cannot give you an exact time frame when this will be available but so far it looks like it will not make it earlier than Q1 2013.

Hello Norbert,
We did some basic tests with MySql and we saw some problems with schema creation/migration from a mono process. We will look into those, but at the moment you should create the database schema (if it is not already there) from a windows process and your application can than run in mono.
All the best,
Jan Blessenohl
