    Hi,

We inherited a .Net 4 application that we do not have the source code (the original developer left the company 2/3 years ago and can not reach it), which works like a black box - users know they have to use it, but they have no idea what is actually being done ...
For this reason we are trying to recreate the application, at least so we can document the internal processes - and for this we are evaluating JustDecompile.
However we have verified (even with a very basic test application with only 1 form) that it is not possible to recreate the application form.
In this test project we were able to compile the project created by JustDecompile only after several changes to the generated source code (and even then we could not open the form in the VS editor).

I have created 3 snapshots: OriginalForm (image of the test project form, on the original source code); GeneratedProject - the project created by JustDecompile (doesn't build) and AfterEdition (the project created by JustDecompile after edition - builds, runs but it is not possible to edit the form on VS).

    Any suggestions on this?

    TIA

    Carlos

    Hello,

Recreating the source code for a complicated WinForms application most probably won't go without any manual modifications. In order to reduce the amount of modifications needed I suggest you to use C# instead of VB.NET, since the C# support is far better than this for VB.NET. In your case I suppose removing all "MyBase." from InitializeComponent would do the job and the VS editor should show the Form (if there aren't more errors).

    Hi,

I tried also C# - and the errors I got were the same.
Even after tweaking the code, the project runs, but can't open the form in the editor.
I didn't expect to have this issues with such a simple project...

    Regards,

    Carlos
