Telerik blogs

I'm happy to announce that the first Beta release of the upcoming official Q2.2011 release of Telerik Windows Phone toolkit is now available for download!

This is a major milestone for us and it is including many major improvements over the current official release. We are proud to announce that our newest control - Telerik Chart for Windows Phone is the fastest chart available for Windows Phone. Check out our test bed and test results in this more detailed blog post. If you know of a fast chart for WP7 - compare it with ours and let us know the results :).

With this first drop of the chart binaries we support over 20 different chart-types. These include Bar, Line, Spline, Area, Spline Area, Pie and all the Stacked/Clustered variations of them. Added to that you can also use:

  • Categorical and Continuous DateTime Axis
  • Numerical axis
  • Categorical axis
  • Logarithmic axis
  • Data binding
  • Support for Negative values

See here a SL application build with our Charting WP7 binaries that is showing a live feed of data into the plot area:

With the official release that is coming in a more than a month we will add interactivity for the Charts - pan, zoom and drill down.

With this release we also add new Calendar control for Windows Phone. RadCalendar is a calendar component that mimics the behavior of the Metro calendar found on the Windows Phone device. It is gesture enabled and is highly configurable in terms of styling and functionality. It is appointment aware and culture dependent. By default the calendar is using the culture from the device, but developers can set any other culture supported in .NET. Any appointment source is supported. With the Mango tools it can be integrated with the phone device appointments.

We prepared a sample appointment view application with complete source code. You can see more info about that application in this detailed blog post. The source of the application is available for download from your Telerik account.

The third major improvement in our suite are the new features added in our home grown smooth scrolling listbox for windows phone. We created a new virtual collection which allows you to easily configure the listbox to fetch data on demand from any data source - including a web service. More details on this RAD feature can be found in this blog post.

RadDataBoundListbox recevied additional level of polishment with the added Busy and EmptyContent templates. The other sugar feature are the added Header and Footer content properties.

The other important thing to note is that Telerik RadControls for Windows Phone are still on sale for only $99 and now is the perfect time to purchase them and to ease the way you built Windows Phone 7.* applications!

Please share your feedback on these freshly brewed bits - there is still time to fill any gaps for the official Q2 release. Everyone who submits feedback on the Beta release until the Q2 release, mid-July, will enter in a drawing for 20 free licenses. The lucky winners will be contacted via e-mail.
