Problem descriptionPeople running unpatched versions of Microsoft Windows XP SP2 may experience problems when accessing sites that issue Ajax requests. The browser crashes with an Access Violation error in
jscript.dll that looks like this:

The cause of the problem is a critical bug in
jscript.dll version 5.6.0.8820. The bug is a critical security risk anyway and Microsoft have issued a critical security update (MS06-023) that fixes the problem. Most users should already have this installed, but users that have blocked this update can download it from this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-023.mspxand apply the patch. The update will replace
jscript.dll with a newer version: 5.6.0.8831, dated 17-May-2006.
Later versions of
jscript.dll and Internet Explorer 7 are
not affected.
