They remove the need for you to set up and run your own servers. Telerik Backend Services are more than BaaS, they are part of the Telerik Platform. With Backend Services you get cross product integration with Appbuilder, Analytics, Mobile Testing, Kendo UI, Sitefinity, Windows Phone 8 Cloud Controls and more. This allows you to develop, publish and support applications with great ease and speed while maintaining the high quality of your projects.
The starter edition of Telerik Backend Services is free. You can always activate it, regardless whether you have activated Appbuilder or not. Having purchased Appbuilder alone however, does not get you any of the paid editions of Telerik Backend Services. If you purchase any Telerik Platform paid editions however, you will get access to the same level edition of Telerik Backend Services.
This will depend on the needs of your business. Telerik Backend Services are designed as a scalable solution, ready to support your app when it becomes a roaring success! So don’t be afraid to start at a lower level edition and then upgrade if necessary. What we can offer as a general advice is to carefully think how “big” your app will become, and go from there.
There are no geographic restrictions on the availability of Telerik Backend Services! The actual servers currently reside in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Backend as a Service, or otherwise known as “Mobile Backend as a Service” (mBaaS), falls in the cloud computing category. It is a set of cloud-based services that enable developer to build and manage mobile apps in significantly faster, easier and more scalable way. BaaS can significantly speed up development by providing your app with data storage, user management, push notifications and cloud-code execution.
BaaS removes the need for you to waste time and energy setting up a backend for an app, especially when you are operating under tight budget and short development times.

Yes. We do not bill you based on API usage in any way.
No. After you have exceeded the limits of your edition, you will be sent an email informing you which parameters you have exceeded. After that, you will have 5 days in which to upgrade to an edition that offers more database, file storage etc.
Any characteristics that differentiate your users into two groups, be it language, user preferences or custom parameters are considered segments. The only thing that is not considered a segment is the device operating system, so that you can send a message to all your iOS customers only.
The number of push notifications are for one month. At the end of each month, the number of push notifications you are allowed to send is reset back to the allowed value for the data plan you have chosen. Additional plans may be purchased to extend as needed. For more information, please view our pricing page.
Telerik Bookends Services edition’s already come with a certain number of push notifications, database storage etc. You can find out exactly how much each edition offers here. If you require more, you need to log into your Telerik account and purchase a higher database package. You are free to choose whatever database package you desire and you are not bound to match a database package to an edition.
Switching from monthly to a yearly subscription plan is easy, you will just need to log in to your Telerik account and select an annual instead of a monthly subscription.
Once a payment is paid, you cannot switch back to a monthly subscription until your annual license expires, at which point you will have the option of either renewing it or switching to a monthly purchase plan.
Just like with the switch from a monthly to a yearly subscription, you need to log into your Telerik account and upgrade to a higher tier edition. If you have a monthly plan on a given edition, the remaining payments outstanding on the plan will be waived and you will be billed based on the higher edition’s price. The upgrade takes place immediately.
We currently only support payments in USD($).
If you are using subscription, you will not be entitled to a refund. If you wish to cancel your services, you need to take the appropriate steps in your account. Once your purchase expires, your Telerik Backend Services will no longer be available for use. You can always renew your subscription and continue using the Telerik Backend Services.

In short, we will keep your data for a period of 60 days, after which we will delete it.
We currently support online payment made through our website as well as bank transfers. We would generally encourage you to use our online payment system as it is faster and more secure, thus ensuring an uninterrupted service.
The default setting in your account is for automatic renewal. If you don’t wish to be automatically billed, you need to log in to your account and change the automatic renewal option to manual.
