Telerik Announces Landmark Q2 2008 Release
One-stop Shop for Superior .NET User Interface Solutions
Newton, MA, July 24, 2008 – Telerik, a leading vendor of developer tools and user interface components for .NET, is excited to announce the Q2 2008 release of its RadControls suites for ASP.NET AJAX, Windows Forms, WPF, and Silverlight, and its .NET Reporting solution. Q2 is a milestone release for Telerik, as it introduces two brand new suites, optimizations in performance and stability across all product lines, and valuable training resources for accelerated learning. Leveraging the power of all major Microsoft platforms, Telerik reinforces its position as a market leader and innovator in web and desktop presentation layer development.
Telerik has a proven record of excellence and pursuit of perfection in UI component development. Its award-winning RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX suite has set a new performance standard for web development, its RadControls for WinForms was the first to introduce revolutionary WPF-like effects in a WinForms environment allowing previously impossible desktop UI with a familiar technology, and Telerik Reporting established a new level of experience in creating and styling advanced reports with minimum effort.
New Technologies and Products:
Building on its expertise in interface development with established Microsoft technologies, in Q2 Telerik presents component suites for two new platforms, characterized by the same Telerik quality—RadControls for WPF and RadControls for Silverlight 2 Beta. The key advantage of the new suites is that the controls for Silverlight and WPF are derived from the same codebase and share the same API, which is completely in-line with Microsoft’s approach, and ensures code reusability and significantly decreased learning periods.
RadControls for WPF
RadControls for WPF is a natural addition to Telerik’s product portfolio. Inspired by WPF in the days when the technology was still in an early stage of development, Telerik was the first component vendor to add WPF-like effects to its RadControls for Windows Forms suite. Capitalizing on its expertise in WPF, Telerik leverages the power of the new technology to introduce an advanced suite that will change the perception of user interface.
RadControls for WPF are engineered for great performance through lightning fast databinding and smart use of UI and data virtualization. The controls are truly lookless and Expression Blend-stylable, and ship with ready-to-use themes allowing easy reskinning with a single property. Furthermore, they share a common API and the same codebase with their Telerik Silverlight counterparts, guaranteeing synchronized future development.
For more information, please visit RadControls for WPF
RadControls for Silverlight 2 Beta
As a pioneer in Silverlight development and a leader in web interface technologies, Telerik introduces RadControls for Silverlight 2 Beta—a comprehensive suite of 17 controls that brings style and interactivity to any LOB application. The controls are fully stylable through Expression Blend, thus eliminating the need for learning a new styling application. The great performance of the components is guaranteed by the smart use of UI and data virtualization, just as in RadControls for WPF, and by the built-in Load On Demand mechanism, which allows for significant performance gains when working with heavy data.
Thanks to its full interoperability with ASP.NET AJAX, RadControls for Silverlight 2 Beta can also be used to visually enhance existing ASP.NET AJAX applications. This feature allows the addition of Silverlight functionality to existing ASP.NET AJAX websites without requiring major project rewrites. The suite ships with ready-to-use themes, and additional skins will be added with every new release.

New Training Resources:
Highly praised for its first-class technical and educational support, in Q2, along with the new suites and controls, Telerik also introduces two valuable training resources to accelerate everyone’s learning of its products, and at the same time educate and inspire the .NET community. The first resource, Telerik Trainer, is an interactive multimedia tool combining video training and hands-on coding to create a unique experience that is arguably the most advanced self-paced training available on the market. The other tool, Telerik TV, is an online library of showcase videos focusing on real applications, serving real business needs and built with Telerik’s development tools.

Performance and Stability Optimizations:
The Q2 release brings great new additions and optimizations across all existing product lines.
RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX:
Officially introduced in Q1 2008, RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX quickly gained popularity and much acclaim for their robustness, reliability, and unmatched performance. Telerik’s innovative set of web components is built entirely on top of ASP.NET AJAX, utilizing its familiar programming model and leveraging completely the power and flexibility of Microsoft’s framework. With Q2, the ASP.NET AJAX suite reinforces its position as the preferred and most mature and comprehensive toolset for building rich and responsive web applications. The new release introduces a brand new RadRotator component that offers great client-side control and cross browser support. Also in the release are further enhancements in RadGrid, RadScheduler, and RadComboBox for greater performance and stability. All other controls in the ASP.NET AJAX suite feature important upgrades and optimizations.
For more information, please visit RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX
RadControls for WinForms:
In line with Telerik’s goal of always being at the forefront of innovation, its line of desktop components has introduced unique visual effects, still unmatched by other vendors, and previously impossible in Windows Forms. RadControls for WinForms bridge the learning gap between the Windows Forms and WPF technologies by incorporating spectacular effects like animations, rotation, and transparency in the familiar and mature Windows Forms technology. The Q2 release of the suite offers even more advanced rich application development tools, as well as significant optimizations in performance and stability and extended support for large-scale applications. The Q2 version features a new Multi-Column ComboBox and ApplicationMenu, in addition to major improvements in the Carousel, Grid, Form, Menu and Label controls.
For more information, please visit RadControls for WinForms
Telerik Reporting:
Q2 is also an important release for Telerik’s intuitive and easy-to-use tool for data presentation . Telerik Reporting Q2 2008 offers several high-level improvements that will facilitate the development of large business projects, and that take Telerik Reporting one step closer to being a true Business Intelligence instrument with strong data analysis capabilities. Among the major additions to Telerik Reporting are: Barcode Item, Checkbox Item, Project Upgrade Wizard to help migrate existing projects to newer Telerik versions, updated report convertors, and support for ASP.NET AJAX.

TechEd 2008 Aftermath
This year’s TechEd USA was another great event for the Telerik team. For the first time, the show was divided into two separate events—TechEd Developers and TechEd IT Professionals , with Telerik being the only Gold sponsor of the Developers event.
The glossy black-and-green booth was definitely the point of attraction at the expo floor. The two huge plasma screens were showing demonstration videos of Telerik products, while our crew was busy giving presentations at the demo stations.

This year’s line of Telerik apparel was “sold out” in no time. The male “.Net Ninja” and the female “Geekette” t-shirts were definitely a hit. We should make sure to produce more for next year’s event.

It is hard to say which product line attracted most interest as people wanted information about everything – from our new WPF product line to the new design surface of Telerik Reporting. We also demoed our ASP.NET AJAX and WinForms suites. A lot of people stopped by asking questions about our Silverlight controls as well.
You can check here some of the special new demos we have been showing at TechEd:
ScheduleBuilder Application
CRM Sample Application
Online Snowboard Store
Telerik products were featured in some TechEd sessions, like Tim Huckaby’s “WPF data visualization applications” during which Telerik RadControls for WPF were showcased.
Our booth was constantly surrounded by colleagues from the industry, Microsoft staff, and partners like Falafel Software, who presented their Active Focus application, built with RadControls for ASP.NET.
Last but not least, we got back home with a Best of TechEd award for our Sitefinity CMS, and two Visual Studio Magazine Readers Choice recognitions of our Win and Web UI suites.
