Go To Definition command navigates you to the definition of a selected identifier. A valid identifier is a type, a method, a field, or a local variable declaration.

Language Support

Supported: C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, JavaScript, CSS

Partially supported: XAML (works for field identifiers, event handlers, and static resources)

Not supported: HTML

To go to definition

  1. Position the caret over an identifier.

    Go To Definition Position
  2. Press Alt+`. From the pop-up menu, choose Go To Definition.

Tip

To execute this command you can use a number of combinations:

  1. Point the identifier and press Ctrl+Left Mouse Button
  2. Point the identifier and click the Middle Mouse Button
  3. Press F12
