Hello Jimmy Lim,

Thank you for choosing Telerik components for your projects !

As you may know the RadControls suite  for WinForms suite utilizes the TPF framework . This means that even when you choose WinForms for your development platform , all Telerik winforms controls will give you the opportunity to still provide a modern WPF -like visual appearance with powerful theming, styling , animations and visual effects.

We are constantly improving both our Winforms and WPF lines and both the WPF and the Winforms teams will be happy to provide you assistance, guidance and support.

The WPF platform is modern and  it is gaining more and more online community presence while the Winforms is classic, stable and time-proven.

On your question - Yes WPF will become more powerful in the future as Microsoft continues to invest in future versions. And speaking of Telerik - our plans are to keep both suites (WPF and Winforms) at the cutting edge.

We maintain  and improve the Winforms line targeting developers with long experience in this classic platform. As you have mentioned you are a starter - I believe choosing WPF will be the better choice /in my personal opinion).

Either way you can always count on us if at certain time of point you need to switch platforms and migrate your projects. Our developers and support  will be glad to make the process smooth and painless for you.

Kind regards,

Hi Jimmy Lim,

You may learn more about TPF by clicking the following link.

In short :
WinForms being an older platform lacked some visual appearance and styling capabilities. That is why all Telerik Winforms controls are build using the TPF technology on the top of .NET framework. When you get the Telerik controls for WinForms - you automatically get the capability to create WPF like applications with Winforms controls. So you create your applications as you would do with the Microsoft controls but you can add animations, templates, effects in a way similar to WPF. You still build on the top of .NET , so yes - you will need the .NET framework  installed on your clients machines.

Speaking about performance :

On the data layer both Telerik suites are virtually and give the best possible performance on the market.

On the UI layer  - WPF theoretically should be faster as it utilizes some hardware ( GPU ) acceleration in certain scenarios.

Kind regards,

Hello Pavel Pavlov,

My group and I are replacing our existing GUI using telerik/winform library, but we noticed that there is a big appearance difference between WPF and Winform, for example in the grouping option for the grid columns, even filtering window looks so much better in WPF.
I am wondering if there is any way to get the similar style for those features in Winform.
Thanks!
