Hi,

I've downloaded the windows phone7 Telerik tools installed them. How do I start to use them? Is there a tutorial somewhere? When I view the videos they presenter already has a toolbox where he just drags & drops them. How do I get the toolbox in studio?

Are there a walkthrough somewhere on a telerik blog where there is a tutorial after installing the tools & how to get started?

Thanks,
Catto

Hello Catto,

Thanks for contacting us and for your questions.

The controls should be automatically populated within the Visual Studio Toolbox upon installation. I have checked this and it seems that currently there is an issue with this functionality. We will revisit it and make sure that it works for the official release (due to a couple of weeks). You can easily overcome this by adding the controls in the toolbox manually. You will simply have to add a new tab, call it 'RadControls for Windows Phone' and choose the Add Items option from its context menu. I have attached two screenshots that will help you in this process.

We have a plenty of videos demonstrating how our controls can be used:

Do not hesitate to get back to us in case of further questions.

Hello Catto,

Thanks for writing back.

I am happy to hear that you have managed to add our controls to the toolbox.

I will consider this ticket closed.

You can write back anytime you have further questions or need assistance though.

Hi Deyan,

I too had the same problem as Catto.

I just downloaded the latest official release of the Telerik RadControls for Windows Phone and installed it using the .msi file. The installation went smoothly and the demo application runs perfectly.

However, when I wanted to try creating a new project, I went to the Toolbox in Visual Studio 2010 Premium edition after setting up a new project and noticed that none of the RadControls appeared in the list. The Toolbox only listed the standard Microsoft Windows Phone Controls.

So, following your instructions, I was able to add the Toolbox items to the list.

Why doesn't the installer automatically add these to Visual Studio 2010? Can this be fixed in the future?

Please note that I also have the Telerik RadControls for Silverlight installed and that software actually added a new Telerik menu at the top of Visual Studio 2010 that has menu items for RadControls for Silverlight, VSExtensions Options and About.

I somewhat expected the new install for RadControls for Windows Phone to be added to the Telerik menu with options to create a new project from a template. I see no such templates anywhere.

Can you explain this?

Do I just use the File -> New Project -> Visual C# -> Silverlight for Windows Phone templates? These have no special Telerik template identifiers that I can see.

I do have a Project template under Telerik -> Silverlight that has C# RadControls Silverlight Application or VB RadControls Silverlight Application but I suspect this would not create a proper project destined for Windows Phone. Could you clarify for me please?

I apologize if these questions seem simple to you. I've developed WinForms and ASP.Net application for a couple years, but have not gotten into Silverlight or Windows Phone 7 yet, but I'm hoping to!

Thank you!

Hello Andre,

 Thank you for the questions.
The issue with the missing controls in the toolbox is a known one an we are working on it. It is related to our installation process.
Currently we do not provide project templates for Visual Studio but we will probably provide them in a future release.
Please write again if you have other questions.

I also have these problems - and it becomes much harder with side by side installation of WP7 and WP8 controls.
If I install only one of them I can manually add the entries in the toolbox.
But with both installed they mix (so I select the WP8 - and after it some of the added ones are from WP7) can't be removed, or can't even be added.

Hello Manfred,

Currently our installers do not automatically add the controls to the toolbox. There is a guide on our online-documentation website how to manually do this.

As for having both WP7 and WP8 installations mixing, my suggestion would be to simply add two separate tabs in the toolbox: for WP7 and for WP8 and separately insert the controls from each suite into its corresponding tab.

This is exactly what I tried.
Two extra tabs - the first for WP8 - choose elements - order by source and select only the WP8 ones,
After this not all of them are there.
Go back to choose - and now is see that some WP7 have the checkbox as well as some of the WP8.
Deselecting / selecting changes nothing (or just "unpredictable").

Since I have no strong need for WP7 support I decided to use only WP8 and not to install the WP7.
