Very annoying to have to manually remove all Telerik WPF references and add the newer version to every single project of mine everytime there is a new version of the WPF controls released. There should be an update utility like what Telerik WinForms is packaged with.

Hello Xavier,

Together with the RadControls for WPF we distribute and the VSExtensions which give the opportunity to upgrade, configure and convert your existing projects. On the following post you could find detailed information concerning the upgrade faeture: Upgrading to a new RadControls distribution.

Hello Xavier,

The upgrade option is available only for already created Telerik projects. So you should first open an existing Telerik enabled WPF project and then the Upgrade option will appear in the menu.

Thanks for the reply but I am really not that stupid to think that a utility to update the currently open project would work with no project open.

It simply doesn't work. I have opened many projects today manually updating them and each time I check to see if your magical project update utility is available, each time I have to manually update the project's usages. So far I have had to do about 45 of them, feel free to suggest a solution as I still have another 80 or so to go.

Hi Xavier,

The link you have sent me contains a picture of the Telerik menu when no project is opened. This is the reason why I clarified that the Upgrade option is not available in this case. Could you please open an existing project, expand the Telerik -> RadControls for WPF menu and send me back the screenshot.

Thanks in advanced,
Biliana

Also, the project 'Navigator' was indeed open. There was just no code window / designer open. Very big difference. One would hope that the trigger for Telerik upgrade plugin would be based on VS project types and current references not if a designer is open with a control that has telerik components on it,.....

Hello Xavier,

Sorry for the misunderstanding on my side (from the first screenshot I decided that there is no open project).

You are right that the trigger for Telerik upgrade plugin is based on VS project types, but it is not based on the current references used in the project.
If the Output type of the currently selected project in the Solution explorer is not Windows Application then the project is recognized as not supported and the Upgrade option is unavailable.
I suppose that the PricingAdministrationApplet project is not Telerik supported type (you could check this by right clicking on the project and selection Properties) and this is the reason for the missing Upgrade option.

At the moment we are working to improve the upgrade option and from the next major release it will be not only per project but for the entire solution and also we will update all Telerik references no matter in what kind of projects they are used.

Sorry once again for the inconvenience and please, do not hesitate to contact us if any further questions arise.

All the best,

Biliana

Please do fix this, I have Lots of projects in several solutions that are not applications, these projects do not get updated and then have to be done by hand, all of this manual updating has kept me from updating to newer versions, which will probably result in my dropping of telerik controls to maintain my code base. Hate to be that blunt but it is so. At the very least, allow the upgrade wizard on non-application projects so that I don't have to manually remove references and find/add the references. Part of this issue here is that the 2010 visual studio add ref is a bit stupid Thanks,

Actually I am having a very very painful experience trying to upgrade, the upgrade wizard installed the dll's to the following path.

C:\Users\Stuartc\AppData\Roaming\Telerik\Updates\RadControls_for_WPF_40_2011_1_0419_Dev_hotfix\Binaries\WPF\Telerik.Windows.Controls.dll

I need to remove and readd the refs to several projects that the upgrade did not touch,

The library is not available from the Add Reference .Net Tab.

2 entries exist for each dll for my old version but no entries for the new version, so am I supposed to remember that the upgrade installed in above directory and browse to that every time I need to reference the library????

Not having fun and not a happy camper

I love the telerik controls, but not this

Hello Stuart,

You are right that our hotfixes does not populate in the Add Reference .Net Tab (in this tab are populated only the versions that are installed by installer) and you have to browse to the hotfix every time you need to change the reference (unless you use the Add Reference Recent tab).

However our new upgrade functionality is ready and is available in our Q2 Beta release of the WPF controls which will be available till the end of the week (or next week at the latest). So please download it, try the new Upgrade functionality and do not hesitate to share your feedback.

Kind regards,

Hi Telerik-Support!

Five years later and i encountered the same issue.

You wanted to improve the upgrade option for the entire solution. Where can i find this promised feature? The upgrade wizard is only available for Telerik projects. But i have standard wpf projects (non-Telerik) und control library assemblies. For both the upgrade wizard is not available.

How can all references to telerik assemblies automatically be updated in all projects of a solution?

Thanks in advance

Rene

Hello Rene,

Thank you for reaching us.

The Upgrade Wizard should detect and upgrade all projects that use UI for WPF. These projects are detected by checking if they reference the UI for WPF Telerik.Windows.Controls assembly.

What I would suggest is to do the following:
  1. Install the latest Telerik WPF VSExtensions if you use and older version
  2. Open your solution in Visual Studio
  3. Go to TELERIK > UI for WPF > Upgrade Wizard
  4. Proceed and update your projects

If the Upgrade Wizard does not detect any of your projects, please share some more details about each of them:
  • What is the project type?
  • What UI for WPF references it has?
  • Do these references point to the GAC?

I hope you would find this information helpful.

Ventsi
