Where can I find the DSL Designer?

I see some DLL's in my installation folder but there are no new AddIns or changes to Visual Studio.

found it...

You need to add a new item to your project in Visual Studio.

When the Add New Item Dialog box comes up, I chose the "Data" category.

There was a template called "Telerik OpenAccess Domain Model"...

I just installed the OpenAccess ORM at my pc (VS2008 + SP /W7/64Bit/Ultimate).
At the VS Info Dialog it shows up with "Telerik OpenAccess ORM 2010.1.310.2.

I created a class library and use the "Enable Project to use ORM..." Wizzard to get the library prepared to be usable for the "Revers mapping Wizzard". That wizzard crated me a bunch of classes. The library compiles successfully.

I want to see the DSL Designer, so I choose "Add new Item" but the item "Telerik OpenAccess Domain Model" is not there!?
Not at the "Data" section nor at the "Visual C# Items" (where all templates are shown) section.

Can someone please help me? Is it a 64Bit issue?

Regards,
Sörnt

Hi Sörnt Poppe,
You will not be able to see the designer item in the "Add new Item" if your project is targeted for .NET versions under 3.5. The designer is .NET 3.5 and above specific. I think this is the case. Can you verify please?

Hi Dimitar Kapitanov,

I just checked that. The Target framework is set to ".Net Framework 3.5". That was not the issue.

Kind regards,

Hello Sörnt Poppe,
We are really interested into finding out what prevented you from using the "Add New Item" sequence. DO you have more information on the problem? How can we reproduce the behavior?

Hello Dimitar Kapitanov,

  • I installed the OpenAccess this morning.
  • Within the setup I changed the installation folder to "d:\Telerik...".
  • I created a class library, started the wizzard to setup my libraray
  • I searched for the DSL Designer Template and didn't find that.
  • I thought that is caused by the changed installation folder and uninstalled OpenAccess.
  • I reinstalled OpenAccess with it's default settings.
  • And started once again to create a class library. But also this time I had no success to find the DSL designer.

Two things comes to mind:
a) This is a W7 64Bit
b) It is a german installation

I really would like to use it. Do you want to have a look at my PC via remote access?

Kind regards,
Sörnt Poppe

Would running the AddIn installer in the OpenAccess directory fix this?  That is one thing I did.

Also, are you looking under the "Data" category of the Add New Item dialog?  I couldnt find it anywhere but there.

out of curiosity....

do you have the file "EntityDiagrams.zip" in this directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\Data\1033

if not, try copying it from: C:\Program Files (x86)\telerik\OpenAccess ORM\dsl\CSharp\1033 , then restart VS.

I clicked at the "Install button" than these indications appears (2_AddInstallerAfter.png)

when I than started VS2008 I see two times the ORM symbol at the splash screen and I get an error message that he could load a "part". I uninstalled OpenAccess and reinstalled it.
Now I can open VS without errors and the Telerik menu is displayed. When I once more started the "Telerik.OpenAccess.AddinInstaller.exe" I get the same picture as at the beginning.

Kind regards,
Sörnt

There is a "k" missing [Teleri.OpenAccess.Sdk.Addin.VSPackage.VsPackage]. :-)

Also here:

I can only find the path to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\"
there is no sub folder called "Packages" as mentioned in at the log.
Can you please tell me which program you used to correct the "Teleri." issue?

Cannot create entitydiagram, because cannot select or create new Firebird connection. So Designer is unreachable. (I do not understand why I MUST specify new connection? Why I cannot simply select it form application config file?). Cannot find any documentation on new designer. Get errors that IObjectScope does not have definition for Extent and so on...

Hello Guys,
we found the reason:
we install the templates by default under the Locale ID 1033 (US-English), that is why you don't see the item in your New Item Wizard (because of the German settings). We are working on that in this moment. I will provide you with details how to workaround the problem manually - we will be uploading today newer version but if you want the experience now just go to the templates folder: (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\Data\1033), find the EntityDiagrams.zip, and move it one folder up (outside the LocaleID folder). That should fix the issue (You will probably have to run devenv / installvstemplates from the command line if they are not registered properly). I will notify you properly when this is done.

All the best,

I got it working in Windows 7 by unblocking the Zip file first.

I am running Windows 7 (32 bit) English and Visual Studio Team System 2008.
The Telerik ORM 2009 Q1 install worked without any errors from the windows Installer GUI, but I am not seeing the Visual Designer either.
I noticed no EntitiyDiagrams.Zip file being installed anywhere in the c:\program files\ folder.
The solution that worked for me was that after the Zip file for the ORM is downloaded.  Right Click on Zip Icon.  Select properties.  See attached screen shot.  In the security section you need to click "Unblock" and apply the change.  If you don't do this before extracting the zip file to an install folder, then windows will carry the security restrictions on exe and Zip files to the install, which prevents it from installing the EntityDiagrams.zip file.

Cheers.

@Rinat Bektemirov

  • You need to download the DDEX 2.0.4 Provider (http://sourceforge.net/projects/firebird/files/)
  • Open and follow the "ReadMe.txt" (modify the machine.config, install the Firebird Client into gac and modifie the provided registry keys)

Than I was able to choose the "FirbirdSource" from the VS provided Dataconnection Dialog.

After following the the advice from Dimitar Kapitanov to move and reregister the "EntityDiagrams.zip" I finally saw the DSL designer.

I am on a 64 bit machine... If you are on a 32 bit machine it may be slightly different.

C:\Program Files\telerik\OpenAccess ORM\dsl\CSharp\1033

If you don't have the "dsl" folder under your OpenAccess installation, you might not have the most recent version installed?

Hi Hendrik,
Instead of manually doing this operation, please just download again the Q1 release (we updated the binaries), uninstall the version you have and then install with the new installer. The LocaleID problems are fixed, and the latest version contains more than 20 fixes that will better your experience, so that is what I recommend.

Hi.

I just found this issue using Visual Studio 2010 RC. I tried all the suggestions but in the end I was able to make it work (or so I though I did).

My environment is:

* Windows 7 Uitlmate x64 (fully patched)
* Visual Studio 2010 RC
* OpenAccess 2010.1 310 (I downloaded the installer file on 4/5/4010)

I'm reinstalling OpenAccess now and see if that solves the issue.

I'll post my results later.

Jose.

OK. Looks like it's a Visual Studio 2010 RC problem, it doesn't work even after re-installing OpenAccess. I can't work with the visual designer, only without it.
In Visual Studio 2008 works fine though.

Let me answer that: "we are allmost ready, we just finished the last touch. It will be ready within this week".
The marketing is not inline with the development department...

I switch to LightSpeed. They have not only VS2010 fully supported but also multiply views of the same model (a thing I specially like).

Hello Bernhard,

In some of the cases there are some installer related issues that you have encountered. They are easily fixed trough a clean install. What you need to do is uninstall Telerik OpenAccess ORM. Then check the GAC (C:\Windows\assembly) for any remaining Telerik.OpenAccess.* assemblies and if available remove them. What is left to do is install OpenAccess and continue your work.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Sincerely yours,
Serge

Hi Bernhard,

I am afraid I could have misled you a bit. In fact Telerik OpenAccess ORM is installed with three more assemblies that do not start with the Telerik.OpenAccess prefix that I assume you have not deleted. You will have to redo the steps but this time remove the Telerik.Data.Dsl, Telerik.Data.DslPackage and Telerik.Data.VsFileGenerator assemblies as well.

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,
Serge
