I was successfully running Telerik Reporting R2 2016 (Telerik_Reporting_R2_2016_SP1_10_1_16_615_DEV.)   in my VS 2015. Recently I upgraded from VS 2015 to 2017 . Now I am unable to edit/create new reports in VS 2017 Report Designer as the Telerik Reporting Toolbox and Menu items are missing in VS 2017.

I can open the report file in Report Designer though.

Hello Ramya,

VS 2017 support is added in R1 2017 and we highly recommended R1 2017 SP2 that includes some important fixes for the VS 2017 support.

Generally after installing Visual Studio, to enable the Telerik Reporting toolboxes, Upgrade Wizard, item, and project templates you have to reinstall Telerik Reporting.

I am having the same problem. Though I am using R3 and VS2017. When I try to go through the upgrade process for reports I always get the same message. The VS designer still is not available. I can open it with the Telerik Report Designer but that product has visualization problems, so it is almost impossible to navigate and set options.

See the attached screenshots.

Hi Matt,

Based on the attached screen shot, it seems that there is no reference to Telerik.Reporting.dll in the project. In case you have a .NET Core type of project the Report Designer will not be available.
In case the issue persists send us the problematic project in a support ticket so we can review it locally and provide you further suggestions.

Regarding the visualization problems in Standalone Designer, they seem to be known issues connected to the higher DPI of the machine. We have already released an internal build v11.2.17.1215 that include fixes for those issues, you can download it from your Telerik account - download link.

HI Guys,
I am also having similar issue. I have Visual Studio 2015 and 2017. Had installed Telerik_Reporting_R3_2017_SP1_11_2_17_1025_DEV. In Visual Studio 2015 I nave Reporting menu integrated but missing tool box where as in 2017 missing both all together.

I can open report file in both version of Visual Studio though.

After recently updating to VS 2017, I've tried to uninstall Reporting R1 2017 SP2 and 2017 support was not provided as an option.  Am I missing something?

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for contacting us.

It seems something wrong is going on with detecting Visual Studio 2017 on your side. To investigate the issue I suggest generating a log using the tool I have attached. Unzip the attached file and launch VS2017InstanceDetector.exe to generate it. The log (vs_instance_info.txt) does not contain sensitive information so you can share it in this thread.

Hello Aaron,

Thank you for sharing the information from the "About Microsoft Visual Studio" dialog.

Please use one of the following command lines to launch the Telerik Reporting MSI installer:
  • For Visual Studio 2017 Professional
    msiexec /i [telerik_reporting_file_path].msi PRODUCTDIRVS2017PROFESSIONAL="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Professional"
  • For Visual Studio 2017 Community
    msiexec /i [telerik_reporting_file_path].msi PRODUCTDIRVS2017COMMUNITY="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Community"
  • For Visual Studio 2017 Enterprise
    msiexec /i [telerik_reporting_file_path].msi PRODUCTDIRVS2017ENTERPRISE="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Enterprise"

What essentially these command lines do is telling to the the Reporting installer where your Visual Studio 2017 is installed. Please note that each command line uses different property so you have to choose the right one for you.

@Vesko,

I have VS 2017 Community, I ran the command.  I have the Telerik > Reporting menu.  The only entry is Upgrade Wizard.  I have the Telerik.Reporting DLL referenced in my project.  I need to use the Visual Studio Report Designer.  The stand-alone designer works but for a specific report I have I need the VS designer.  Any idea?

Hello Courtney,

The Telerik Reporting Menu lets you run the Report ExplorerData ExplorerGroup Explorer and Upgrade Wizard. It is accessible through the Telerik Menu --> Reporting. The above tool windows are only visible in the report designer context. You have to click within the report designer to enable them.

If you need to create new reports my recommendation is to use the item templates. For more information see: How To: Create a Report (Visual Studio)

What I ended up having to do was to uninstall the Telerik Reporting and re-install it.

My best guess is that I originally installed it before I had upgraded to Visual Studio 2017 and, at the time of initial install, did not include support for VS 2017.  During the reinstall, support for VS 2017 was included and everything began working as it had in the previous version of Visual Studio.

I tried uninstall/install and so  ..

Finally I solved this , just in command prompt

go to folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Progress\Telerik Reporting R2 2018\Bin\VS2017Enterprise>

and then execute

Telerik.Reporting.VsX.vsix

Still no Telerik Menu when opening a Reporting project in VS2017.  The Telerik menu WAS showing up in VS2017 Preview, so I uninstalled that, then uninstalled and re-installed Telerik Reporting R2 2018, but that did not work.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing Telerik Reporting and running C:\Program Files (x86)\Progress\Telerik Reporting R2 2018\Bin\VS2017Enterprise\Telerik.Reporting.VsX.vsix, but that did not work either.

What else can I try to get the Telerik menu showing again?  (Telerik Reporting R2 2018 toolbox IS available, and I DO get Telerik Report templates when do Add | New.)

Thanks!

Thank you, Todor.  That worked.

Anyone else trying this solution, be aware there was no .exe for download at the link provided.  However, I was able to find a link that took me to the GitHub repository, where I was able to find and download the project.  I then had to build it in VS, then find and run the DuplicateExtensionFinder.exe in the project's bin\Debug folder.
