Is there any way to build and assign a ColumnGroupsViewDefinition visually in a designer or can this only be achieved programmatically?

I am using a RadGridView with ViewDefinition of type ColumnGroupsViewDefinition to achieve column grouping (Q1 2010 release).  I am able to programmatically build a ColumnGroupsViewDefinition and assign it to the RadGridView.ViewDefinition property and its working fine but I was just wondering if this can be accomplished in the Designer.

Thanks for your help,
Darren Shafer

Hi Darren Shafer,

Presently, it is not possible to create a view definition at design-time. You can create it only programmatically. Should more customers request the same feature, we may consider implementing it in one of our next releases.

I would like this as well.

Currently, is there any way to set the background color of the ColumnGroupsViewDefinition or the ViewDefinition  separately from the GridView background color?

I created a RadGridView theme using the Visual Style Builder, but I can not find a control or property for the ColumnGroupViewDefinition or ViewDefinition.  We need the ColumnGroupsDefinition to have a different background color then the background color of the grid rows.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi MikeB,

Thank you for your vote. Presently, you cannot style the ColumnGroupsViewDefinition via Visual Style Builder. I will consider your suggestion as a feature request for one of our next releases.

Hello Andez,

Thank you for writing back.

We always strive to improve our products and such feedback is much appreciated. In this particular case, however this feature will require a lot of resources due to the complexity of the ColumnGroupsViewDefinition. Should more users request it in future, we will reconsider it.

Do not hesitate to write back, should you have other questions.

Regards,
George
