I observe my pages are weighing more than 143 K of viewstate because of telerik controls (grid/tabstrip). Is there a way the telerik controls can work with ViewState disabled for the page? What is traded off in the process?

Hello Deepak,

Generally, you can disable the viewstate of our controls and use them that way, however thus a subset of the otherwise supported features will not function. For instance, the selection in the grid and the tabstrip will not be retained, features like custom edit forms, hierarchy, etc. for the grid will not be supported, and so forth.

My recommendation is to utilize the performance optimization techniques for our controls in first place and employ RadCompression in your application, if applicable.
