Just an observation.  I have been waiting for over 2 hours for the Control Panel to finish installing product updates and it is 50% completed.  The download finished in a few minutes but for some reason the install is RIDICULOUSLY slow.  You guys may want to have a look at the Control Panel application and make sure it is working the best way possible.  2 hours for 50% of the product updates is really not very good.

Hello David,

A delay of that sort is indeed unusual. It would be most helpful if you could send us the installation logs from upgrade process. You should be able to find them in one of the following locations:
  • C:\ProgramData\Telerik\Installer\Logs
    for Windows 7 and Vista
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Telerik\Installer\Logs
    for Windows XP

As the forum only allows image attachments, you can then send the logs to clientservice@telerik.com and reply in the thread. I will take a look and share my findings here.

Kind regards,
Andrey

Hmm, to install 5 products it took more than 2 hours.
See the attached picture of log timestamps.

Hi fruzicka,

We are constantly looking into improving install performance. It would be of great help if you could send us those logs, so we can determine what was making the install take as long as it did.

I encountered the same issues...the entire upgrade installation took over 4 hours on a Windows 8 64-bit, VS2012 system.  And after taking all of this time, VS2012 would load itself, but when I loaded any website or solution VS2012 would then stop running (refer to other forum entries regarding this).

Not an acceptable upgrade folks!  You need to work on your installation procedures.

Thank you for sending those logs over.

I reviewed them and noticed some of the slowdowns on your system have already been addressed, the main cause for the slowdown in your case was the OpenAccess SDK install. We will look into better identifying the cause for the issue and improving that for one of our next releases.

Lynn, you should be able to resolve the issue you are experiencing by using the solution in the following sticky thread:
Telerik Visual Studio Extensions common crash

I will not try to make an excuse, as the issue is a serious miss on our side, but the main reason for the issue slipping under our radar was the fact it is actually an omission in one of our previous releases rather than the latest one. We are already taking measures to keep such issues from occurring in the future.

Kind regards,
Andrey

Hi,

I too am experiencing the same issue.

Two hours later I am still waiting for the control panel installer to complete.

I am currently at 9 out of 34 processes.

Running Windows 8 64 bit and updating to all the latest Telerik controls.

I am running both VS2010 and VS2012.

It is unbearably slow.

Hi Simon,

Could you send us the same logs mentioned in the thread below, so we can determine what was making the install take as long as it did.

The machine that I was using during this process encountered some later issues (not related to Telerik but to some Microsoft/W8 update issues).

I have since retired the machine (and "wiped it") and have not had any similar problems with the replacement.

I can certainly accept that the issue was caused as described and have moved on.

Thanks for the support.  I am signing off this thread.

You've got to be kidding me!  The only answer I see is an OS wipe and reinstall?
I left my computer on last night so it could hopefully be done updating by this morning, but it crashed "unexpectedly" and now I have to start over.
It's been "Uninstalling Telerik OpenAccess Samples Kit" for an hour already...  and I'm only on 3 of 19.  This is absolutely crazy.  This is just updating from q2 to q2 sp1.
Please tell me there's something I can do???

Hello Dan,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing such issues.

Could you share with us what was the error when the Telerik Control Panel crashed? It could help us to investigate what caused the crash and allow us to improve the product's weaknesses.

We have a known issue that the Open Access product's demos are taking more time to install\uninstall than normal which problem you've already seen. We are constantly trying to improve that installation time. For now, as a workaround when you're installing the product, you can disable the Open Access Live demo feature and install it outside your business hours. You do not need to reinstall your OS.
If you think that a product different than Open Access had took more time than normal to upgrade, you can send us the logs for that product for further investigation. To find the logs you can refer the previous posts.

Dimitar

Thanks for the reply Dimitar,

I don't know what happened nor can I prove it was Telerik that crashed.  It was an "unexpected" bugcheck reboot of my pc that I found in the morning after letting the Telerik update run over night.

After I restarted it, and the Open Access was taking so long, I cancelled and restarted the update without updating Open Acccess and it worked fine.

Control panel is really slow for me as well. After launching it, the splash screen just sits there for about 5 minutes then it takes about 10 - 15 minutes to login. The little spinning icon just spins and spins while its says its logging in. When the selection screen finally comes up, I make my selections and there is another long period that it just sits there, progress bars all at 0. When the progress bars finally start, the install times are not all that bad I guess.

Hello Andy,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing such issues.

We haven't observed such issues on our side. Could it be a temporary slow down of your machine? I suggest you checking if there is something running on your computer that could make the Control Panel work so slow. You can also try if you're experiencing the same issue with other applications on your machine.

Regarding the Open Access install time issue, I would like to inform you that it is fixed in the latest Control Panel version.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dimitar

I have created and uploaded a screen recording of of the login process for the control panel so you can see what is going on. I used a camera so there was no extra CPU being taken up. I have emailed a link to clientservice@telerik.com

To be fair it was much faster today than yesterday, 2 mins at the splash screen and 5 mins logging in but still that's REALLY SLOW.

I have seen this slowness for a while now, I have even had my machine rebuilt (Not related to this issue) and it had no effect.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for sending us a video recording.

It seems that the communication between you and our web services is extremely slow. All slow downs, you experience, are at the moments when the Telerik Control Panel is communicating with any of our web services (for example when the splash screen seems to be "frozen", the Control Panel is retrieving some metadata that is needed for it to be run). These slow downs are really strange, because the transferred amount of data in these cases is very small.

Is the process of downloading a product also so slow (after downloading has started)?

As an idea, is it possible that you have installed some traffic analyzer or virus protection software on your computer or private network, that could cause the delay? I would suggest you examining your system and network with your system administrator in order to find what could cause the slow down in sending\retrieving information.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Dimitar

I have figured out a little bit more about this. The control panel does not work through our corporate firewall. I always work from home and when I run the control panel I just log out of VPN and then run it, this is when it is so slow. Today I was doing a bit of testing with it and found that if I launch the control panel before I log into our VPN it runs fast. Log into VPN then log out, its dog slow. Everything else that needs internet connectivity runs fine though after logging out of VPN on my machine so I am not sure why your control panel seems to take such an issue with it.

Anyway -  if anyone else has this issue, here is your work around.

Thanks
