Using RadAsyncUpload to attach file to list item

Hi, I created a custom web part in VS using the Telerik RadGrid to display data from lists as well as input data to them. I want to add a function that uses the RadAsyncUpload control to allow the user to attach a file when a new list item is created. I have seen instructions to do this for a document library, but not how to add attachments to items in a list.
