Unable to use Build Step feature on frame elements

Hi guys,

I'm unable to use Build Step feature on frame elements. When i highlight the element and select Build Step (BuildStep.png), nothing is selected in the DOM (EmptyBuildSteps.PNG). But, if i highlight and select Mouse Actions as Left Click for an example (LeftClickMouseAction.png), the element is recorded in Telerik (LeftClickElement.png).

The idea of the test script is when we click start without filling in the required fields, the required fields background and border will be coloured in red and i would like to verify this change of color. Based on the documentation, i found that this can be achieved by using the style verification option that is available (StyleVerification.png) but since the step builder cannot detect the element,i'm unable to build this step. 

Also, when i use the IE11 debugger mode, i'm able to dive into the field element that i'm looking to verify (IE11DOM.png) but when i do the same in Telerik DOM,i can't find the same element (TelerikDOM.png). **Not sure if this helps but it's a finding that i noticed :)

Hi Pravin,

Thank you for providing detailed description of the encountered issue. 

Based on all details and screenshots you have provided I certainly could confirm the issue is within Test Studio and how the frame which elements you would like to verify is parsed in the recorder DOM tree.

However due to the specifics of recording issues they could be debugged only in development environment. Therefore I would like to know would it be possible to provide us direct access to the application under test.

Also I would like to know which is the version of Test Studio you currently have in use. Which is the browser you record against and what is the behavior if recording against the other browsers? The version of the browsers would be also helpful to better understand what might be causing the issue.

Hi Elena,

The Telerik Test Studio version that i'm using is 2016.3.928.0 and the browser i used to record is IE11 (11.0.9600.18618). 

I used the recording feature on other browsers and these are the results. 

FF (52.0.2) : Highlighting feature is not working properly hence issue couldn't be recreated in FF. (Workflow Title field can't be highlighted FF.PNG)

Chrome (57.0.2987.98) : Same issue with IE11 - Step builder not working for the selected element

Also, here's the link to the application under test that you can access :

Once u have provided the credentials, i will be receiving a call to authorise the access which i will do in my end. 

After launching the sites, do follow this steps to proceed to the area under investigation : 

1) Click on Document Set (DocumentSet.PNG)

2) Select Telerik File (Telerik File.PNG)

3) Click Dong Energy tab (DONGEnergyTab.PNG)

4) Click Start Review Workflow (StartReviewWorkflow.PNG)

5) Click Start Workflow.Required fields will then be highlighted in red (StartWorkflow.PNG)

**Once the workflow is started for a particular document, New Review Workflow will not be possible for the same document. 

**To upload a new document in the library, just drag and drop the new document into the library (The document must not be empty)

Hi Elena, 

How the authentication works is whenever you are accessing the site, i will receive a call which i need to answer. Unfortunately this is the only way to authenticate and i might have missed the call yesterday.Very sorry about that. Do let me know a time range of when you might be accessing the site as i can ensure i will be able to answer the authentication call :)

Also, do you think its possible to fix this issue by next week Tuesday? I have to wrap up the testing by next week and if the debugging might take some time, i would have to use an alternative way to validate the fields :)

Hello Pravin,

Thanks for clarifying this.

Unfortunately that limitation will be a bit bothering for the investigation but at least the application could be tested on our end. Please be prepared to get a call tomorrow 4/26/2017 between 3.00 and 8.00 pm Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia time (this is the time zone listed in your Telerik account). 

You should be informed that once I manage to identify and reproduce the reported inconsistency it will be submitted to the engineering team for further investigation and implementation of possible fix. It will be earlier implemented in the next planned release which currently is planned for the end of May.

I managed to test the sharepoint site you provided and would like to inform you that with the latest internal build 2017.1.328 of Test Studio the described issue is fixed. Please update your version to the mentioned one and double check if that works for you. Thanks!

Hi Elena, 

Thanks for troubleshooting this issue. I tried updating my Telerik Test Studio (CheckForUpdate.png) but i'm only able to update to version 2017.1.207.0 (CurrentVersion.png). And in this version, i'm still facing the previous issue.

When i try to check for updates latest than this version, i'm getting software is up  to date message (SoftwareUpToDate.png).

Do help to advice :)

Hello Pravin,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Since the release I refer to is an internal build you would need to turn on the respective notifications to be able to download it. Please see the attached screenshot and enable the check for internal build as well. Then you should be able to download and install the version in question.
