Hi telerik,

I've a question about the product releases these days. It has been a while ago since I developed an ASP.NET project myself, so I had to start reading about the latest development in .NET etc.

I was a bit confused when I was starting to download the r.a.d.controls for ASP.NET from my client.net. There is:

- r.a.d.controls for asp.net
- r.a.d.controls prometheus for asp.net
- r.a.d.controls futures

All 3 suites are compatible with Visual Studio 2008, but some are in beta fase and others are not.

I'm sure there will be some posts that I missed with an explanation about the differences, but I really hope you guys are not going to do the same as Microsoft: giving alpha's, betas, previews etc. of each product that is coming out and with each release there are problems and thing that will be fixed in next releases etc.

If that is your strategy: please give us (me) some more detailed overview of what product to use in which version of VS and .NET.

Example: I like the features of Prometheus. But something is telling me I should wait to develop a project with it, because there isn't a final release. I don't want to go back to the classic controls, but from them I'm sure they work in my projects. If I use a preview or beta, will it be working when the final release is coming out? Or do I have to do all kinds of conversions etc.?

Well, I don't know if you know what I mean, but this was something I ran into when I was starting downloading from my client.net.

Just want your advice on this: I'm starting to develop an ASP.NET project in Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.5. What suite should I use?

Thanks for reading,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

We recommend everyone to start using RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX Q1 2008 (formerly "Prometheus") - the dll version is 2008.1.415.The suite is now officially released and is no longer in beta.
As of our current release this is the prime offering of web controls from Telerik.

For more details please refer to this page:

Hello Ivo,

I've a question about the VS Toolkit: am I right that when I install the RadControls for ASPNET AJAX Q1 2008 that there are 2 VS toolbox tabs created?

- RadControls for ASPNET AJAX Q1 2008
- RadControls 'Prometheus' for ASPNET Q1 2008

Or is one just enough? I'm not sure which one to delete.

Hi Daniel,

When you install RadControls for ASPNET AJAX Q1 2008 (released just yesterday) you will get one VS toolbox named 'RadControls for ASPNET AJAX Q1 2008'.

Hi Paul,

I just installed the new Q1 2008 tools. When in VS 2008, when I open one project, I have a "RadControls for ASPNET AJAX Q1 2008" tab on the toolbar, but when I open another project, the toolbar tab is not there.

In both cases, I do see the "RadControls for ASPNET Q1 2008" toolbar tab.

I just close VS 2008 and selected the "register RadControls for ASPNET AJAX Q1 2008 in visual studio toolbar".

Any idea why the toolbar tab is not showing up?

Thanks!

Hi Paul,

I just selected the "show all" for the toolbar and now see the "RadControls for ASPNET AJAX Q1 2008", but none of the items are accessible in one of my projects.

Does this have something to do with the project or how it was creatred?

Thanks,

Lynn

Hello,

The RadControls toolbar items are available in Visual Studio 2008 only when your web site is using the .NET Framework 3.5. If you have created a .NET 2.0 web site you need to change the framework version from the website's Property Pages.

Hi Lini,

I looked at the FAQ's for and it states "The new suite supports ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET 3.5".

I also checked all of my sites, and they are set up running ASP.NET 2.0.

So I am still not sure why some of my sites can use the new RadControls for ASPNET AJAX?

Can you help to clarify?

Thanks,

Lynn

Lynn-

Sorry for the confusion. The RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX are definitely built to support both .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5. If you don't see the RadControls in your toolbox for a .NET 2.0 website, simply drag the Telerik.Web.UI.dll from your installation direction right on to your VS toolbox. This will automatically add all of the RadControls to your toolbox.

Let me know if you have any trouble with that approach and I'll be happy to help.
