After installing Q1 2014 UI for Silverlight and Q1 2014 Reporting for Silverlight, I started getting this error in my project.  Prior to install Q1 2014, I didn't have this error.

I'm using VS 2012 ... and have checked that I have Microsoft.Windows.Design.Extensibility.dll.

Any hints on how to resolve this error?

Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rob,

Please verify the projects settings are correct and the XAML files are added from the correct place. For more details refer to my post in this forum thread.

If the error still occurs, test to upgrade to the latest available versions of Telerik Reporting and hotfix for UI for Silverlight, then remove controls one by one (remove the corresponding assemblies and XAML resources) to isolate which one is causing the error.

We will appreciate it if you send us the project that isolates the problem for further investigation.

Regards,
Stef

Hello Rob,

Below you can find a quote from my reply in your support ticket on the same question:

"Unfortunately the issue is not reproducible at our end. Based on your screenshots and the Setting a theme of the WPF/Silverlight Report Viewer (Q1 2014 and later) blog post we created the attached demo project. "

The project is attached to this post as well.

If the issue is still reproducible, please update the project and send it back to us for tests in your support ticket.  We can update this forum thread at the end for anyone concerned.

Stef

This problem has resurfaced again when we updated to Q2 2014.

I don't have time to resolve this ... Telerik, it's YOUR product YOU need put some effort into duplicating this as I don't make things up as I go.

I'm getting sick of the continued "can't duplicate" ... in order to duplicate you will have to do some work.  I can't send you my projects as it is way too large and way too sensitive.

I'm really getting sick of these "no effort" responses.

Hi Rob,

Based on my search, the reasons for the error are various from erroneus framework and Silverlight SDK installation, to issues with control's styles, XAML resources and controls' assemblies.

Please test the following:
  1. My colleagues suggestion described in this forum post. Use the path for the Visual Studio that is in use for the project. Note the assembly is required for the VS design time and is not related to Silverlight - msdn: ValueTranslationService Class.
  2. Reinstall the .NET framework and the Silverlight SDK and leave only Silverlight 5.

The previously attached project illustrates a standard scenario in which the error is not reproducible at our side. Please test to extend it until the error is reproducible. We can also give you an FTP access to upload the project for tests at our side. Include also the result of the suggested tests.

To investigate the problem we will appreciate it if you cooperate us to gather the needed information to reproduce the problem and/or limit the possible reasons for it.

Regards,
Stef

I'm guessing this is still a problem. I had the problem with two windows in WPF that I decided to see about switching over to a RadWindow. The one worked fine, the second didn't. It generated the aforementioned error.

I closed Visual Studio when this happened and I went back in. This time the situation was reversed. The one didn't work, but now the second did.

It's pretty hokey behavior. There's something amiss in the controls. I've simply abandoned using the RadWindow at this point.

I'm sorry. The need for me to use the RadWindow isn't enough to justify the troubleshooting and creating a sample project that may not duplicate the problem. There wasn't anything terribly special about the Window classes I changed to RadWindow. They were MVVM so the window was binding to the view-model.

I came across this post when I was searching about the problem I was having. I added my comments so that you knew it wasn't a one-off problem.

Hello Anthony,

Thank you for your feedback.

We are aware there is an issue, but without being able to reproduce and investigate it, the information is insufficient to determine what causes it. If you have chance at any time to isolate the problem in a demo project, please open a ticket and send us the details with reference to this thread.

Hi,

I have the same problem with WPF and latest telerik version in a demo project. (created in VS 2015)

Where can I upload the file? (I'm not sure if there are any license information around..)

 Regards, Tim

Hi Tim,

Please open a support ticket with reference to this forum discussion and the demo project that reproduces the problem. Include also details if running the same application on different machines causes the same problem, and specify the settings of the machine where the problem is reproducible (installed Telerik products and their versions).

Thank you for your cooperation.

Stef

This same issue resurfaced again today after updating to Silverlight UI 2016 (after running the Telerik Upgrade Wizard).  I verify all the assemblies are correct, theme's correct, etc.

To replicate:

1.  Use ALL Telerik UI controls to a silverlight 5 project/solution

2.  Make sure the same SL5 project/solution includes Telerik Reporting controls also

3.  Make sure you have this in your UserControl .xaml AND you include every control and it must have an x:Key and/or x:Name for each control.

    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"

    xmlns:ei="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/2010/interactions"

4.  Make sure you have this in you App.xaml

5.  Bind to an class (MVVM).

6.  Load the solution with NO .xaml files loaded.

7.  VS 2012 - MUST be viewing XAML in split screen (xaml code below, designer visual above)

8.  Select the .xaml that has all the controls on it ... it's a 50/50 on whether or not it'll trigger this error and/or designer error.

This is how you can duplicate the error.

Cheers, Rob.

Hello Rob,

Please check the attached video (SWF file) in IE browser. It illustrates our test based on the provided steps for reproducing the problem. The MainPage.xaml is loaded successfully in the XAML designer each time.

We will appreciate it to send us a demo project for further investigation via support ticket.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Stef
