I recently attempted to connect Test Studio to a TFS repository (VisualStudio.com) and get the following message:

Unable to load source control plugin. Please install either Team Explorer or Visual Studio.

Currently< I have VS2015 Professional and VS2017 Enterprise installed. Each have the Team Explorer running and connect fine to TFS. Test Studio version is 2017.1.207.0

Thoughts?

Hello Al,

Thank you for contacting us.

The installation of Visual Studio 2015 and 2017 is quite different than its previous releases and this is the reason not all dlls could be located. Please install Team Explorer 2013 and you shouldn't be facing the same error anymore.

Please let me know in case of further questions. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

I installed Team Explorer 2013 as asked (and installed Update 5 for Visual Studio, because Test Studio failed to connect without the update) and I now have it connected.

Cheers!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for reaching us out.

The Team Explorer was deprecated from Microsoft and the download link was also removed. Though the issue is under investigation for quite a long time on our end. I hope the next release will introduce a fix.

I would need some time to double check if there could be any workaround until then. Once I discuss the matter with my engineering team I will get back to you and share details.

Thanks for your understanding!

Hi Dan,

Thank you for your patience!

I double checked what opportunities we could suggest at the current state and the good news is that Team Explorer 2013 is available for download if logged in to the Microsoft site. If you do not have an account please create one and login to MSDN to be able to download. Here is a link which I guess will lead you to the download after login.

Please let me know if further assistance will be required!
