In the ideal world my team would only have to focus on one project at a time. I don't live in the ideal world. What is Telerik's story (as-of today or no later than the next quarterly release) for a single team handling multiple projects? Usually new features are only going into one or two, but bug fixes and other maintenance tasks are necessary for multiple other projects. In TFS the two options seem to be multiple team projects or a single team project with multiple areas. Of these the single team project seems the most desirable, as its supported by Urban Turtle and Team Web Access.

However, a few (old) posts in this forum seem to indicate that TeamPulse doesn't really support multiple multiple projects.

So which one is it? In which scenario does TeamPulse excel? In which can I still get by?

Thanks!

{Background: I have 1 Team Project Collection with a dozen or so projects for two teams with aggregate views across projects per team. It doesn't work very well. I'm also looking at TeamForge+ScrumWorks}

A second, followup question, so as to not make the first one too long:

Given the scenario I have described (multiple concurrent projects per team) now also assume that not all projects belong to only one team. Sometimes teams will share a project, or bounce it back and forth.

And to get really complicated, what about virtual teams? (Don't ask me what that means, I'm still trying to figure it out myself, but in the meantime I'm curious what it means to YOU, and how it fits in the scenario here.)

Hi,

For the next few months we will focus on the cross project functionality. This mean to be able to see and edit stories, tasks, etc. for different projects on one screen. By the way we are planning to have a shorter releases.
We didn't think about that one team can be assigned to a multiple projects. There is a value in such features and when we are going to mature our team support in TeamPulse we will consider it. I've added you feature request in our feedback portal for discussion and prioritization.

Kind regards,

So, to confirm, (because I'll be doing it today) Telerik's multi-project vision for TeamPulse revolves around multiple TFS projects (within a single Team Project Collection) instead of a single TFS project holding multiple projects as areas?

Thanks!

Hello Drew,

We didn't think about cross project from TFS perspective. But I'll explain what you can do.

We do not support hierarchy of projects for now or some kind of project grouping. If you want to make TFS areas TeamPulse projects and view those projects hierarchically you can't do it.

But you can sync different areas of your TFS projects to different projects in TeamPulse. We support syncing with TFS query

All the best,

What's the current state of managing across projects?  We have multiple products, each set up as a project because they have their own stories, pace, etc.  BUT we need to be able to see points allocated and used across projects.

Now?  When?
Thanks

I'm not sure it'd be appropriate to advertise competing products in Telerik's forums but I will say that we have found a solution we're extremely happy with and that seems to have been designed from the beginning with our challenges/situation in mind. So, um, email me if you'd like more details? (Try my first name and my domain.) What's proper protocol here?

Hi,

At the moment we don't support the scenario one team to handle multiple projects. We had similar request and it is in our todo list and we will consider it for some of the next releases. You can go and vote in comment on our feedback portal Assign one team to multiple projects

At the moment you can try our Cross project reporting feature. This will help you to see on what you are working on in the current iterations across all your projects. In case with one team this should help you.

PS: Drew, It's a bad idea to advertise other products in our forums :-).
