Hi Everyone,

My name is Valeri Hristov and I am the technical lead of the team that is developing the Telerik Gantt control. In order to answer your questions about our plans and release schedule I want to share some details about the development of the control and probably initiate a discussion about the features that you would want to be included in the final version.

Q: You promised Gantt control for Q3 but I cannot see it in the Beta. What is happening?
A: Our initial plans were to release a control that you will be able to play with in Q3. Unfortunately they changed and now we expect to release the first bits near the end of 2011.

Q: What is the release schedule of the new control?
A: We plan to publish a CTP version of the control around the holidays and a Beta version in February. Near Q1 2011 in March we will decide whether to call the Q1 version RTM or Beta 2, depending on how stable it is, does it have all must have features, etc.

Q: What will be included in the CTP?
A: Currently we are aiming at a read-only control (no editing, no drag-drop) that looks like most of the available Gantt controls - a treelist on the left, a timeline on the right that has several types of items with relations between them.

Q: I really need feature "X". Will you include it?
A: We still don't have a final list with features to be included in the first version of the control, so please send us your requests. I cannot promise that we will include all of them, but we will consider every bit of feedback we get. We are very interested in use cases and scenarios that you want to be covered out of the box. We can sign NDAs if your application requirements should not be disclosed in public.

To send us your feedback, please reply to this thread directly, or send us support tickets for RadControls and mention Gantt in the title. Thank you in advance and happy coding!

Cheers,
Valeri Hristov

Hi Valeri,

Would you be able to provide an update on your progress with the development of the WPF Gantt control?

We have a requirement to deliver a read-only Gantt control to our client within a larger programme of work and would like to know whether we need to start looking at other options now for this or if it is safe to hold out for an up-comingTelerik release.

Cheers
Gareth

Hi Gareth,

I already answered your support ticket, but I will post my answer again in case someone else needs the same information:
We are hard at work on the CTP/Beta version of RadGanttView and it will be released with Q1 2012 in mid February. If you are in a hurry we could build a fully functional (rendering and API-wise) read-only alpha version in a couple of weeks that should be useful for a demo and some initial development.

We are also very interested in additional requirements that anyone might have:
- Performance - how many data items do you expect to have in the gantt, both tasks and relations? Currently we are able to smoothly scroll tens of thousands of items with reasonable amount of used RAM.
- Data - what kind of data are you expecting to use - MS Project, or other? If you have an existing database schema that you want to use we will appreciate if you open a new support ticket and send a sample to us.

Kind regards,
Valeri Hristov

Hello,
I am very impressed with CTP version of Gantt Control. I would like to ask about a few things.
 - When do you plan to release next version, and what will be included in it?
 - When can we expact possibility to modify Gantt chart elements by drag&drop actions?
 - Is it possible, that you can post some roadmap with features that you working on, and possible dates of delivery of those features? (the roadmap could be very useful, as we work at the moment with RadianQ version and we want to decide if we have to go on with it, or can try with Telerik version)
Best regards,
Jacek

Hi Jacek,

Thank you for the interest in our control.

For the Q2 release the control state will be beta and below are the key features that we will do our best to be included.
  • Drag and drop and resizing for tasks.
  • Timeline filtering - multiple visible ranges, hidden visible ranges, etc.
  • Special slots
  • Improved selection

For the Q3 release the control state will be official. We haven't planned the tasks for Q3, but below are the features that most probably will be included.

  • Resource view - grouping tasks by resources.
  • Mappings
  • Serialization of tasks, resources and relations.
  • Import and export to MS Project.
If you have any feature requests not listed above do not hesitate to suggest them and they will be considered.

Hi Anton,

This feature is not planned for the next version of the GanttView. Could you please share with us what do you expect from such feature and how would you expect the data to be formatted? You could also check the Telerik Reproting framework which could be able to help you achieve your goal.

Hello
I think it will be useful to introduce the following feature :
* More than one slot of time (From/To) for each task.
this can reflect the real timeline of each task.

thank u

Hello Moem,

Could you please give more details as it is not clear for us what do you suggest? A screenshot demonstrating the desired result would help a lot.

Hi!

I think it must be like MS Project printing, where you can print tasks and Gantt diagram for all or specific time. Ms project may be is not the best planning tool, but printing is great!
Major thing for Big Boss is "ok, i can see it on the screen, how can i print this for outside peoples or send this diagram by e-mail?"

May be first version can save as PDF/XPS and than print using 3-party application. Major thing in printing project - correct multipaging and selecting paper format and page orientation. Same project can be printed for one boss in A4 portrait (without diagram, for example) and in A3 landscape for other boss. Telerik Reproting framework has not elemts like "task table", "legend", "milestone", "relations" and so on.

Hello Anton,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts - this feedback is valuable for us. We will consider this when developing the printing feature. For now I would suggest you to use the the approach described in this article to export the GanttView into image.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I would like to be able to sort, group and filter on the columns on the right of the gantt chart control just like a grid control. I have a +6000 activities for a 5 year long project, I would like to filter a specific keyword or date interval.

Other features...

  • "Jump to date" so that I can quickly answer the PM view
  • Pert graph for sets of selected activities...

Thanks,

JP

Hi Jorge,

You could find attached a sample project which demonstrate how to sort the columns in the grid section of the RadGanttView control. Filtering could be achieved by using the same approach. Unfortunately at this stage grouping could not be visualized. We will consider to implement this feature in one of our future releases.

If you like "jump to date" you could use the ScrollingService property of the RadGanttView which offers many possibilities to scroll to specific area in the grid or timeline section. You could find in our online repository many sample projects which demonstrates how to set deadline of given task or just change the front color of the task according to it's state and many more.

Hope this helps.

Hi Hamza,

It will not be possible to use WPF GanttView control on UWP.
Currently GanttView control is not available in the UI for UWP suite, we have it logged in our Feedback Portal, you can vote for it at the following link:
