Hi -

I was looking at the Silverlight UI Controls page at telerik.com.  Both at the top of this page, and in the demo, there are screen shots of a nice looking app that says "Telerik Dashboard" at the top.  At the left there is a contact list with photos, and at the top middle some guages and graphs, bottom right a grid, etc.  But this does not appear to be in the demo or examples anywhere?  Where can I find this app example?

Thanks,
JB

Hello jtby,

Thank you for your interest in our Silverlight controls.

The screenshot you are seeing on the Silverlight UI controls page is taken from one of our prototype integration examples. With this example we want to demonstrate the common API of our Silverlight and WPF suites and how our clients can use one and the same set of controls in an application which can run seamlessly for both platforms. The example is still work in progress and we cannot make it public until it meets the level of quality we are aiming for.

What I can offer is to let you know when “Telerik Dashboard” is ready and provide you with the source code. How this works for you?

That would be fine.  I care more about the telerik controls, layout, and graphics, than I do about any working functionality in this demo app (like actually adding a contact).  I know I don't speak for everybody, but a problem many of us have with Silverlight is that now you can finally produce really quite stunning UIs, but might need a graphics or interaction designer in order to really pull it off well - which many of us don't have. So application templates that include layouts, and super silverlight graphics design, such as the dash you show,  that are easily adaptable, would be very useful to many people.  Also we tend to like smaller examples from the current "everything and the kitchen sink" mashed into a single humongous demo along with sometimes custom controls and combinations - as they can be very tedious to pick apart and adapt.

Hello Bruce Geyer,

I appreciate your willingness to use and test even an unsupported and unfinished example from us. Still, due to our efforts for the latest release, the priority of this example was lowered a little and its development was postponed for a while.  Because of your high interest, I’ll advise with our development team to raise its priority and hopefully I’ll be able to send you the example in a week or so.

Best wishes,
Hristo

Hi Lino, is your company getting into SL as well?

BTW, is Sean (from the good old days of Delphi and TurboPower) still working with you? I see you're running a much different company now than a few years ago. You sure know how to pick the best talents! :-)

You and I talked at many BorCons!

Hi Ben,

Yes, we are heavily invested in Silverlight and work on major projects for clients in the US and Europe that utilize SL.  I am also writing a book on SL3.
Sean Winstead is not with Falafel for few years now but he is doing great in Colorado and we are always in touch.

Good to hear from you Ben,
Cheers

Lino,
Just a question, where are you getting your resources to develop in SL? I am new to SL, have been reading for a while and would like to invest more time on SL and develop real LOB apps.

Appreciate your advice,

Regards

Hi Bilal,

Resources on SL are scattered all over the place on the internet.  Of course www.silverlight.net is a good resource.  For me to really see what is going on, spending time inside of "Reflector" to see how SL works internally is a must.
That is why I decided to write the book, to show from a practical point of view how to develop in SL especially LOB applications.
Also Telerik is doing a great job in releasing sample applications for Silverlight that can help a lot in understanding and using the technology, that is why I added my voice to this thread as the Telerik Dashboard example looks very nice and I am sure a lot of people would like to see the code for this to learn from.

SL is huge and going to be even bigger, have fun!

Hi Lino,
In fact I read several books on SL. Coming from a strong ASP.NET/AJAX background, I am reading a lot but never had the chance to develop something real.

Thanks for your info!

Lino, next time you talk to Sean tell him Ben Hayat from Florida said Hi. He is a great person with high morals. Lino it's nice to see you and your team joining the SL platform. Telerik has done a fantastic job with their products in SL. I'm sure you will use many of them in your projects.

I guess I'll be seeing here and SL forum more often. Take care!
