Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knew what happened with the partnership between Telerik and Intersoft (WebGrid)?  I have been a customer of both companies for quite a while and have banked on both companies products, largely because they seemed to be working together as companies.

My concern going forward is that there seems to be some interoperability concerns between the upcoming release of WebGrid 4.0 and some of the Telerik controls.  I don't intend to go into technical details here because that is not my issue in this post, but to put it mildly, Intersoft support is not being kind to Telerik on their beta forums and is basically telling us to ditch Telerik.

I think Telerk has great products and outstanding top notch support.  Intersoft has a great product as well, but with horrible support and bascially no documentation other than the basics.  I am hopeful that Telerik will one day offer the same type of functionality in their RadGrid (hint hint), but for now I have to make everything play nicely.  Also, making the switch is not an overnight process.

So, what ever happened to the partnership?  I'm certainly not trying to put Telerik on the sport here, but is there any chance that Telerik will be open to support issues regarding interoperability with their former business partner?

Thanks,
Chris

Really? I was planning to move to WebGrid v4 when it came out of beta, just to have access to the improved client-side API, but was unaware of problems running with RAD controls.

What kind of issues are we talking about?

Hello Chris,

Indeed, once upon a time we used to be partners with Intersoft and we shipped our products together with theirs. We had every intention to make this partnership a strategic, long-term endeavor, yet some problems arose which led to the termination of the partnership and each company took its own way. Intersoft have nice products and we can only regret that things between us did not work out the way we had hoped for.

While the partnership lasted, we were contacted on several occasions by our customers about problems with r.a.d.editor - WebGrid integration. One of the problems was related to the editor, which we fixed, however the other problems were related to WebGrid. The most commonly voiced problem was that a field being edited with r.a.d.editor could lose its value (starts showing "undefined") if a user clicks a number of times outside of the bounds of the editor. We researched the issue extensively and it seemed to be related to the WebGrid. We contacted Intersoft on several occasions, however the problem was never solved - they thought that the problem is in our control despite the feedback they received.

We have not had any other problems with the rest of the telerik controls, integrated with WebGrid.

As to your question "is there any chance that Telerik will be open to support issues regarding interoperability with their former business partner?" - even though we are no longer partners with Intersoft we will work with our customers and Intersoft to address any challenges you guys face. We know that you don't care about the relationships of vendors and you expect results - we'll do our best to help you get those results.

With regards to "ditching" of telerik products, don't expect us to make a counter "recommendation" not to use Intersoft products. They have a great grid and it is more advanced than ours. We believe that customers could make an informed decision which products to use and not to use based on the requirements of their project and we would in no way want to influence you. We can only promise to work together with you to address any issues you face.

Kind regards,
George
the telerik team

Stuart,

I have to dig in a little deaper, but have been some discussions over at Telerik about issues between RadMenu 3.2 and WebGrid 4.0 (apparantly 2.8 is ok).  I'll let you know when I start running both side by side.

Telerik:  thanks so much for the response.  Your support and attititude towards customers is top notch, I wish all vendors had the same approach.  I look forward to continued use of both companies products...with a watchful eye on RadGrid for a future replacement.  In the meantime, I hope Intersoft can learn from Telerik's attititude towards and customers and support.

Thanks,
Chris

If any one single comment could be said to differenciate Telerik from Intersoft, it's that one.

Indeed - if that degree of prefessionalism doesn't impress you're brain dead! Honesty and integrity like that are a breath of fresh air.
