Hello Peter,
You don't have to stretch the content as some of the ApplicationButton BorderBrushes will still be visible. This is why I think it would be better to change the default style of the ApplicationButton to better fit your requirements. You can find detailed information about how to modify the default styles and brushes of the ApplicationButton in this article.
