SlideView selection changed in filmstrip mode

I have a question if the Slideview component has an event or property when it is in filmstrip mode to get the current image or index that is in view when swiping the gallery.

The selectionchanged event only fires when you are not in filmstrip mode. When you are in filmstrip mode the event does not go off.

Am i missing something or maybe it is not available. 

I want to use it to load or unload preview images when swiping a large gallery.

Unfortunately, I could not reproduce the scenario where the SelectionChanged event is not fired by the SlideView in filmstrip mode. I have attached a project that demonstrates how you can get the currently selected item and load images on demand. The SelectionChanged event is fired every time the user changes the current item. Please, take a look at the sample and modify it in order to reproduce the problem.
