hello, i am frequently wondering what is the best practice to list group aggregates only.

1. grouping and aggregating in report, hiding the empty details section

2. grouping and aggregating in data source with LINQ and just list them in the report

a current practical example is listing the count of employees per department, floor and building.

whatever solution i use, next time i have the same problem, i think the would be better...

Hello Sebastian,

To show aggregated data for a group you can use a CrossTab item. The recommended way for organizing the data for the CrossTab is with CrossTab Wizard where you will be able to specify the data fields for row/column groups and the aggregate function(Count) for detail values.

Groups can also be nested, there is a parent group Building which has a child group Floor which has a child group Department (How to: Add groups to Table item and Crosstab item).

A working example demonstrating CrossTab functionality can be found in Telerik Reporting installation folder (<installation folder>\Telerik\Reporting <version>\Report Designer\Examples\ProductSales.trdp).
