I'm trying to modify the project settings in the XML editor. I created a backup of the default settings before I did anything. I made all the changes I wanted, validated the XML and then saved them. When I went to view my stories to see the changes I had made, they were all gone. No matter how I modified the filters I only got the message "No Stories are available There are no stories matching the selected filters". Fortunately I was able to restore the project settings from the backup and all the stories reappeared.

I changed the StoryBoardStatusList, TaskBoardStatusList, Story & Task workflows and the Bug workflow.

Can you please explain what's going on, and how I can change the settings without (seemingly) losing all the stories/bugs I've already entered?

Hello,

I am sorry to hear that you have experienced some problems trying to update your project settings.

The reason why you didn't see any items after the changes is caused by the changed statuses in the filters. I suppose that you have also updated the status groups (filters are created based on those status groups) for Story, Bug and Task workflows (check attached screenshot). To see your existing items you should remove status filtering - for example on the backlog select story and bug types and all(or none) status groups; or in the status groups in the xml include both the old and the new statuses. Then you will need to update all items in old statuses and set them to new ones.

For any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us again. If you need help managing the transitions, please send us both the original and the updated project settings so we can check them for any inaccuracies.

Kind regards,

Thank you. I figured it had to be something like that, but I didn't realize that the status was being filtered in that manner.

I know we're doing stuff a little backwards (creating items, then changing the settings), but some kind of warning or way to mass-convert statuses would be nice.
