I am trying to save a Word document that has merge fields, but do not want the merging done. It appears that the merging is done before the document is saved so that that when it is reopened, cannot then perform the merge. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello Clifford,

When exporting a document containing merge fields to DOCX, the items source you've set is exported with it. In this way when the document is imported back, the respective fields on the document will be resolved properly.

However, performing the Mail Merge operation is different from this. When merging the document the resulting DOCX no longer contains merge fields - they are replaced with the respective values.

I am attaching for your reference two files - one of them was exported from the Mail Merge demo for RadRichTextBox, and the other is the result of the Mail Merge operation in the same demo.

I hope this helps!

That is sort of what I had figured out. I don't know what you plan, but for us, being able to save as a word file with the merge fields intact would be good because then can save in a standard format, which could also be opened with standard word application.

Hello,

I am not sure I understand you correctly. Exporting a file which contains merge fields does indeed save it with the fields intact. Those documents can also be opened in other word processors supporting Mail Merge without problems. In case you are facing difficulties in this regard please get back to us with additional details.
