This is also the case for WPF, I can send you that example if you need it.
I also tried Telerik of 2 versions ago (2014_2_0617) and that worked fine, the border stays blue as expected.

We are already aware of this issue and it has already been fixed. The fix is available with our latest internal build, so you could give it a try.
