As the title suggest, when I install Terlik controls by running the control panel as a local administrator account, the tools don't properly setup in Visual Studio 2017 for my standard account.

Due to company policy, installations on our desktop have to be completed with an administrator account different than our regular user account.    So, the only way for me to install the tools is via a different account.   This installation "works", and all Telerik is installed on my desktop, but Visual Studio does not recognize Telerik when I run my standard account which is used for development (see "StandardView.jpg" attached).

If I run Visual studio under the administrator account, the Telerik menus, toolbars, etc.. show up in Visual Studio (see "RunAsAdmin.jpg" attached), but then I am unable to develop due to our security policy restrictions.  I have to develop in an account different than this administrator account, but cannot with the Telerik tools.

Is there a method to make this automatically install for my standard account as well when installing with the admin account?

Thanks,

Russell

Hi Russell,

Thank you for contacting us.

You are facing this issue because our Visual Studio extensions are installed per user. I suggest you to install Telerik VS extensions through the Visual Studio Marketplace by using your regular account. Please follow these steps:
  1. Open Visual Studio -> Tools -> Extensions and Updates
  2. Click on the Online tab
  3. In the top right corner text box type the name of the product for example Telerik UI for ASP.NET MVC VSExtensions
  4. Download the extensions and the installation will be scheduled when Visual Studio closes, so close it and proceed with the installation

Please let us know if the provided information helps.

I am currently experiencing the same issue but for Reporting. Also the download button in extensions now just takes me to install the file which I would need to do with an admin account.

I have installed it via the progress control panel and via the file that it downloads when I click download for Telerik Reporting.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thank you

I was able to get it taken care of by having IT make my account an administrator, running the installer, then taking the rights away.

Hi Justin,

I am glad to hear that you found a valid workaround. Another approach is to install the Telerik.Reporting.VsX.vsix package manually. The package can be found in the installation folder of Telerik Reporting.

Hello Vesko,

I recently added the telerik.com package source to Visual Studio 2017 and do not see the package: Telerik.Reporting.VsX.vsix mentioned above, but I do see all other Telerik.Reporting packages. What exactly is this package used for? Do I need to install it for the telerik reporting to work better? thanks.

This package is deployed and installed by the Telerik Reporting MSI installer or by the Progress Control Panel. It is not available in the Visual Studio Marketplace neither in the Telerik NuGet package source.

Telerik.Reporting.VsX.vsix contains a Visual Studio extension that provides the Telerik Reporting designer and the Upgrade wizard. You can find more about the extension in this article.
