Hi,

I've read in a few places that the reusable content functionality found in MOSS WCM doesn't work correctly when using the Telerik RAD Editor.

We're looking to purchase the RAD Editor for our SharePoint WCM offering, but would like clarification around what exactly does and doesn't work regarding reusable content.

A lot of the postings I've found were from last year - I wondered what the current state of play is regarding this - have the issues been fixed ?

Any help appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Chris

Hi Christopher,

There is a problem with the automatic update mechanism. We are currently working on that problem, but due to it's specifics and complexity we cannot provide an exact ETA when it is going to be fixed. Once it is solved, we will include the fix in the code and release an update.

I hope this helps.

Even though we skipped Reusable Content in our current project I think we might need this in the future, so if you can supply any example/code of how you solved this it would be very interesting!

Good work!,

I cannot find anywhere that this problem is solved yet, and it start to become crucial for our solution that we can handle updates in the reusable content functionality. If this isn't solved soon we have to either stop using the RAD Editor or re-build the page layouts in some clever way so that the functionality can be used in SOME way... If you have a solution on this problem it would be VERY nice to get more information on this! And if this is a real solution, why haven't this been picked up in the product yet?

Hi ,

The issue with the reusable content is fixed in the latest version or RadEditor, which is 5.4.1 now. You can download free trial by going to the Downloads section of your account then you click on free trials and then click on the Visual Studio Extensions, DLLs, Scripts, Source Code, DNN and MOSS wrappers ... link. I attached an image where you can see the page with the trial archive.

I hope this helps.

Hi there

We've wondered whether to upgrade our version of radEditor. The purpose of the upgrade is solely to be able to use the reusable content feature, which does not work in our current version which is 4.4.0.0.

We've installed the trial version of radEditor v. 5.5.0.0 correctly and are able to edit content with the upgraded editor.
Although the editor seems to be correctly installed we are not able to update the reusable content items from the reusable content list.

Hi Frederik Frederik,

When you are using the latest version of RadEditor for MOSS you can insert reusable content in every scenario (web part, list, WCM). How ever the update function is available only in WCM scenario. In the current version of RadEditor for MOSS 5.5.0 there is a known bug with the update functionality if you replace the original PublishingWebControls:RichHtmlField field with telerik:RadHtmlField filed by using the SharePoint Designer. This issue will be fixed in the next service pack of the control, which is scheduled for August. How ever in mean time if you have a valid licence agreement I can provide you with a fixed version of the RadEditorSharePoint.dll 5.5.0.0 and all you will need to do is replace the existing one in the GAC and perform an iisreset.

Install Process
- asp.net ajax to moss
- added trial asp.net rad controls to moss
- deployed moss editor solution via .wsp

Test Scenario
- Added "Reusable Content" (HTML text "AAA")  in site collection list and marked as "automatic update"
- Added Rad Editor Web Part to Web Part Page
- Selected "AAA" item via rad editor toolbar "MOSS template manager" - worked as expected
- Updated "Reusable Content" item HTML from "AAA" to "BBB"
- Returned to Web Part Page -- still displayed "AAA"
- (Note - i confirmed that the reusable content items worked as expected in this site/site collection via the "out of the box" page control
; no caching is turned on for this site)

Hi Stanimir,

We are now using the newest version of the RADEditor (5.6.1, assembly version 5.6.1.0), but still facing almost the same issue.
When we insert an automatic updating piece of reusable content, all seems fine and the piece of reusable content can't be edited. Even the preview mode of the editor shows the piece of reusable content.

However, as soon as we publish the page, it changes back into that clickable 'a' character. (The url behind the link is: http://<WebAppUrl>/ReusableContent/1_.000)
When we change back to edit mode, it displays fine again, just as mentioned above.

Is this still a known issue? And do you have any idea on when it'll be fixed?
Thanks in advance.

David

Hello David Slot,
Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce the issue on our test server. For your convenance I attached a small movie with my test. Please inform me if I am doing anything wrong.

What I suggest you to do is check if you are not using resource files of the previously used versions. Make sure that there is noMOSSEditorTools.js file in your browser's cache. Also execute iisreset command.

If cleaning the cache and executing the iisreset command does not help, please provide me with a step by step scenario of how to reproduce the issue. In order to reproduce the issue I will need the following files.
1. ConfigFile.xml, TollsFile.xml, MOSSEditorTools.js, which are located in the /Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/web server extensions/wpresources/RadEditorSharePoint/5.x.x.0__1f131a624888eeed/Resources/ folder.

2. If you modified the page layout with SharePoint Designer, send me the code where you are replacing PublishingWebControls:RichHtmlField with telerik:RadHtmlField.

3. You can send me a sample content as well.

Hello,

We're experiencing similar problems as described above: reusable content changing in clickable character a or even disappearing when we edit a summary link control on our page.
We hope this wil be fixed by upgrading to the newest version of the Rad Editor.
Meanwhile, we've experienced something else as well. We use WCM in a content deployment scenario and it appears that the reusable content code snippets do not get published to the production server.
On the staging server we find this code:
<EM>span id="__publishingReusableFragment" contenteditable="false"
fragmentid="...<BR></EM
but on the production side these tags and everyting in between have disappeared while the rest of the page is published correctly.
Is this a known issue that will be tackled by the latest version of the editor?

Hello Stanimir,

Basically, what we're doing is just inserting a reusable fragment within our page (standard procedure) and as long as we do not edit another control on that page, everything works fine.
However, we have two SharePoint servers: one for redaction purposes and one "publishing" server which is anonomously accessible by our visitors. Content is pushed from the first server to the "publishing" server by a standard content deployment job that runs once in an hour. Somewhere in that content deployment process, the reusable content-tags seem to disappear.
We are using version 5.5.1.0. of the editor and planning an upgrade.

Greetings
Jan

Hi Stanimir,

What extra information do you need, besides the one I've posted earlier?
You also need to know that we're working with customised page layouts in which our developers inserted the Telerik control: <Telerik:RadHtmlField>. We also use a customised masterpage. Within that masterpage I've tested an OOB SharePoint page-lay-out equiped with the OOB RTE and there the reusable content passed without any problems.

Hi Jan,
Could you open an official support ticket?

There I will need the following information.

1. The configuration files of your environment: web.config file of your MOSS site, ConfigFile.xml, ToolsFile.xml, and MOSSEditorTools.js, which are located in the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\wpresources\RadEditorSharePoint\5.6.2.0__1f131a624888eeed\Resources folder. If you do not have 5.6.2.0__1f131a624888eeed folder, you are not using the latest version of the control and you need to upgrade.

2. Sample of the reusable content, which you are inserting in the editor.

3. A step by step scenario of how to reproduce the transferring of the date where the reusable content is lost.
(Content is pushed from the first server to the "publishing" server by a standard content deployment job that runs once in an hour.)

Sincerely yours,
Stanimir

Hello all,

We solved the problem by changing the path of our target SharePointsite. Before, the path of the source site looked like this: servername/site/site/site, the path of the destination site was: servername2/site/site.
Earlier, we already discovered problems in the url-translation of hyperlinks created in Telerik. To tackle this issue our developers installed an "http module" that did some kind of string.replace. This worked fine but apparently it did not work for the reusable content.

We are having very similar issues currently using version 5.6.

When using reusable content, after clicking the "Check in to shared draft" button, the content in the radeditor changes to an "a" link until the page refreshes, then the reusable content displays normally again.

However, the biggest problem is that if I edit the page, then edit a webpart on the page (so the web part properties show up at the right side of the page), the reusable content turns to an "a" link while the web part properties are displayed.  Then when I click "OK", or "Apply" on the webpart.properties, then check in the page to shared draft, the reusable content totally disapears and I have to go re-add it.

Is this fixed in the version just released?  This doesn't have anything to content deployments, I am not using content deployments.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I upgraded to 5.7.1 and the dissapearing reusable content issue seems to be resolved, thanks.  However, when I click "OK", or "Check in to Shared Draft", the content still switches to an "a" link tag until the save is complete and the page reloads.  Is this normal functionality?  It's not a showstopper, just a little weird.

Thanks!

We are using the 5.7.3 version and if we set the following in ConfigFile.xml and ListConfigFile.xml, we can not add web parts (together with reusable content):
<property name="ContentFilters">FixUlBoldItalic,IECleanAnchors,MozEmStrong,ConvertFontToSpan,IndentHTMLContent</property>

(It doesn't matter what we set the ContentFilters property to. If we comments the row it works fine)

When we click Add web part in a web part zone, the reusable content changes to "a" links and then when the page reloads, the "a" links still are there (they do not changes to the reusabe content.

It is a WCM senario and we have our own page layouts and masterpage.
