Hello Roy,

Yes - we will release officially RadScheduler for WPF with Q3, and then in a short time we will port it to Silverlight - probably for the next Q1.

Hi,

Do you guys have any further details or ETA on this control?  Perhaps a date when something would be available as CTP or beta?

thanks

Hello Jack,

As of now I can only confirm that we are releasing the first bits with Q1 (that is around the middle of February.09). We are still in process of researching how to make the real conversion from WPF to Silverlight. Do you have any deadline in mind?

Valentin,

I need to have something in the users hands in the January timeframe.  Given that no vendors seem to have a set of scheduling controls I think I'm going to be stuck using a half and half Silverlight/ASP configuration or do away with all the different calendar views and stick to something more datagrid / list view .

Thanks

@Jani - for the middle of December there will be no bits for the Scheduler.

@Jack - it is not sure that we can have something to share for the January timeframe - we are in very early stage of building the Scheduler now...

Ping us again in January and if we have something to share - we can give you an early preview.

Hi Valentin,

We are evaluating a SL Schedule Control which allows us, to manage multiple items using the calendar day view.
It must be similar like your RadSchedule WPF Demo 'Multiple Days', but instead of day-columns, we need to place our custom item-columns.

Would this be possible with the SL RadSchedule control?

Jani

Hello Jani

We are not planing to release this feature in first version of RadScheduler for Silverlight but we have requests for it and it is in our todo list. We called it ResourceView, where you can group your data by some of its properties.

Hi Jani,

We are not planing to provide a resource view with the Q1 2009 release. Our aim is to port the existing WPF Scheduler features to the Silverlight Scheduler. After we have a more clear idea when this will be ready we will plan the new features. Resource view is one of most wanted features. It is on the top of our to-do list for the Scheduler release right after Q1 2009.

Hi Kristof,

It would not be possible to provide an early beta of the control by the end of this month as there won't be any such version ready by this time. The scheduler team joined another Telerik's major initiative. You will start seeing details about our work very soon and I can be very hopeful that you will be pleasantly surprised. The end-result of the team's work should be available in the March timeframe.

We will get back to our development on the RadScheduler for Silverlight tool in the second quarter of this year. I will add you to a Beta Testers list to receive the earliest bits of the component as soon as they are available during the next Q.

Hello,
For a web project im working on, i need the scheduler control.
we are still in early stages, for the immediate future we expect 95% of the users to have windows platforms, but 8 months from now it will change.

1) How hard is it to migrate an app written with WPF to Silverlight?
2) Are there preformance gains with Silverlight?
3) Will the new Silvelight Scheduler be just like the WPF version? much faster than the Ajax version?
4) I need to have a working app for demonstration in the beginning of April, Will a Scheduler control for Silverlight be available till then? or should i develope the app in wpf, and migrate to silverlight later on?

I hope you can help me clear those issues,
Thanks,
Lev

Hello Lev Rosenblit,

As you can think of Silverlight as a subset of the WPF framework, Silverlight still has its limitations that we need to overcome each time we port an existing WPF control to Silverlight. This said, the migration of RadScheduler is surely not an easy task. We, however, believe that we will be able to port the majority of the features within a single Q.

Our goal is to keep the RadScheduler for Silverlight's performance and responsiveness as fast as it is for WPF. We are aware that performance is a key feature for most of the users and we will be surely working in this direction. I believe that this also answers your third question.

I cannot set a certain timeframe on when the RadScheduler tool will be available for Silverlight. I can, however, assure you that we can send to you the earliest bits if you'd like to be included in the Beta Testers List.
Developing a WPF application and then porting it to Silverlight sounds as a good course of actions. The RadScheduler for Silverlight should be derived from the very same codebase, hence, you will be able to run it against Silverlight as well. We expect to be able to provide you with the first early bits in the beginning of this summer.

Hi Nick;

I'm late to the party but I thought I ask this question to get myself up to speed.

I see you have Scheduler for all your platforms. Can you tell me which Platform [features] are you following for the SL version? or do you have some kind of feature list/specs for V1?
And will the Scheduler be in it's own dll?

If I was going to get a better understanding which platform demo should I look at?
Thanks!

Looked at the WPF Scheduler a bit - thanks.

I notice that Resource Grouping (available in AJAX version) is not in the current version of the WPF RadScheduler, but a comment in the forum said it hopefully will be in the Q2 version.  (Resource Grouping allows you to show schedules by resource - for us, show all techs for a day, with their appointments etc - another example is multiple meeting rooms)

So..

Will Resource Grouping be in the Silverlight version?  That is a showstopper for us if it is not.

Thanks!

Hi Bruce,

We are aware that including Resources in the Scheduler control for WPF and SL is a really major feature that most of the users would require. We are, however, still in the initial development stage of RadScheduler for Silverlight. There are plenty of major (basic) features to include for the upcoming Q2 release. If we manage to complete all the tasks that we planned for Q2 earlier than expected we will be definitely looking into implementing Resources and Resource Grouping. If we do not succeed for the Q2, we will start working on the task shortly after the official release and we will add the latest internal build to the latest internal builds section of the site as soon as the feature is completed so that you and other users will be able to use it.

Hi Nick;

A few years ago when I was working with Delphi I needed a scheduling component and found a product as an ActiveX that was in it's early stage. I helped with testing and feature buildup for a while. I see now that they have schedule for .Net. They have lots of experience in this area and I suggest you guys look at the product very carefully to broaden your view about scheduling. This can give you a wider range what to expect of cases.

Scheduling is very important entry point for developers to get to use Telerik suite for SL and I'm happy to see this gate is opening up.

Hello ..Ben,

Thanks for sharing this with us. We will definitely be looking into the tool you recommended. It is always a good practice to catch up with what the competition offers. As the RadScheduler for Silverlight is still in its early development stage, we might consider adding functionality that does not exist in the WPF counterpart of the control. However, our main goal is to port all the existing features (in RadScheduler for WPF) to SL first and then extend the controls' behavior. We also planned to add resources to the controls' featureset if we manage to first port all the currently existing features of RadControls for WPF.

Hi Nick;

This is one of those products (more than just a control I would think), that you could debate which direction is better:
a) Get the product out with min features and build on it as it goes
b) Or, build a full scale framework and rich set of features before letting it out.

I have no doubt Telerik has great minds to make that decision and I'll leave that to you guys and I'm sure the rersult will be great!
Good luck!

I am also interested in beta testing the RadScheduler for Silverlight.  We would like to replace the RadScheduler for ASP.NET Ajax on our site with it, but we use it in Resource Grouping mode though, so I guess that might be more of a wait.  Also, let me throw in a request for porting something like the AdvancedFormTemplates (.ascx files) for extending the RadScheduler Insert/Edit screen, as this is something we currently use in the ASP.NET Ajax version.  Thanks.

You have been added to the beta testers list. The beta build of the control will be released by the end of May.The resource grouping will not be included in this beta build but we will do our best to include it in the official Q2 release. Also, customizing the edit form will be possible. It is possible and now in the WPF version. You can review our example for a reference.

Hi Hopeton,

We already sent an early beta to the testers on the list. In the following days we will launch a public beta version of the control featuring a demo application. You will be able to test the control there.

I hope this is acceptable for you.

I would like the public beta for the RadScheduler myself (or even the private beta) - where will this be announced?  Here, I hope!  This is definitely a decision maker for us.

Are the private beta DLL's the same as the public release?

Are the non scheduler dll's matching up to the recent SP2 release?

Thanks

Hi Jack,

The public dll-s are built later than the private build so they include some minor fixes.
As for the non-scheduler dll-s they are not the same as these from the service pack. The reason they are shipped is that the Scheduler needs them and the functionality that is not related with RadScheduler is not fully tested. That is why I suggest you to wait for the official release to use them outside the scheduler control.
