Hi Mark,
I am not quite sure that I completely understand your scenario but when you can implement a ceratin scenario with a standard asp repeater control, it is possible to implement it with a repeater, too. Please, implement your logic with a <asp:repeater> control and then simply replace the repeater with a rotator.
In case you are able to implement the scenario with the repeater but you encounter problems with the rotator, please open a new support ticket and send a fully runnable demo project (including DB, if needed) which works as you desired using only the repeater along with a detailed explanation of the problem.
