Since we've upgraded to Telerik version Q3 2013, our site always asks to enable access to the Apple QT plugin (on IE browsers where it is disabled). We have the identical site on our production server with the previous Telerik version, and that doesn't do it.

It seems to stem from the inclusion of a load of browser capabilities tests that are in the script resources now - such as

l.addTest(

"QuickTimePlayer",function(){if(Q.ActiveXObject){return R("QuickTime.QuickTime")||R("QuickTimeCheckObject.QuickTimeCheck");

}

else{return S("QuickTime Plug-in");

<edit>
I've just tracked those lines down to core.js, Quicktime and a bunch of other browser capabilities tests are in there now. They weren't present in the Q2 2013 version.

Hello Andrew,

Generally, this notification is observed due to the instantiation of an ActiveX control used by IE for plug-in detection.

Basically, we are aware of this behavior and looking for an approach to work around the problem. Currently, we are planning to do that during ondemand of this action, which means that the notification should arise only initially when the browser makes plug-in check for the first time, only if there is any custom code or control on the page to use this detection feature.

That's very good news that a fix is in the works - is there nothing available we can do as a workaround currently? This is preventing the release of our current software which has been internally upgraded to the newer version.

Hi Andrew,

I'm afraid currently all that can be done to prevent these confirmations is to change a property in the settings of IE:
Internet Options -> Security tab -> Custom level:

Hope this helps in your case.

Unfortunately, this is no help to us. We cannot just tell thousands of users to change their IE settings! Its not even possible for users to do so, in the corporate, centrally administered environments that a lot of our users come from. Why was this update to the CORE include allowed to go through like this - you must have realised that IE users would now always be prompted with a warning message if they visit ANY site that happens to have a Telerik reference, even if its for a single Numeric Textbox!

Hello Andrew,

I can understand your frustration and I want to assure you that this issue is with very high priority. We are currently working on it and will do our best to handle it for the upcoming release (Q1 2014).

Please excuse us for the inconvenience.

We notice that Q1 2014 was released a month ago, but we can't see any Release Notes about this problem.

Has it been fixed?

I don't think it is - even though it was 'top priority' for the next release!! Amusingly, even this forum now prompts me to install the add-on 'Apple' from 'Apple Inc.' at the bottom of the page!!

Hello, Andrew.

The fix Dobromir mentioned was included in the 2014 Q1 release. It's also present in the change log, albeit in a more broader / vague manner:

Captcha
The Audio Detection is moved from Detection Framework into RadCaptcha to prevent ActiveX popup when it is not used.
