preserving horizontal scroll position

is it possibe to preserve the horizontall scroll posision after changing the sort order by clicking the header or by filtering the data.
or at least scroll back to it programatically.

One of the grids i have has many columns and it is common to be scrolled to the right a number of them.
it is very inconvient when the postion keeps changing and you have scroll over again
