Populate a Panel Bar from Visual Basic

I have a rad panel that could have four items with static children depending on the user. Basically I need to check the user's role, and then based on that, I decide what panels should be loaded. I have seen some demos on visual basic and the panel bar but everytime I click on the link the page pulls up a server error. Can someone point me to some directions on how to add items to a radpanel through visual basic? Thanks,
