Hi,

My team is looking for a new tool and I'm giving TeamPulse a try. Due to the nature of our work (multiple projects/clients), we have to plan several projects at a time, some of which have overlapping engineers. I am wondering if there is a way to plan a single sprint for a combination of projects.

We would like to plan a single sprint that encompasses stories from all projects, that way we can effectively make capacity and velocity decisions based on the whole team and not a per project basis. Unfortunately, due to our small size, our engineers need to be able to work on many different projects during a sprint.

As of now, we've been doing this in Pivotal Tracker with one project for the company, with epics being assigned to projects. PlanBox does this really well, but their UI and sprint planning is a little sub-par. Is there anyway to do this in TeamPulse, even in a slightly hacky way?

Thanks,
Gabe

Hi Gabe,
Thanks for the interest in TeamPulse.
For what I have understand, you are looking more to be able to plan team’s allocation against single iteration for multiple projects.

In TeamPulse there is an option to put all your team members into a single project and use “Areas” as projects separator.
This way you will have, a single project, containing all your work (stories) and people (members) into one place, so that you could plan accordingly and track progress as one. Areas will help you, better distinguishing the origin of the stories and task.
Ex. Project: MyInitiatives
Story 1  - Area: Project 1
    Task 1.1 – Assigned to Person 1
    Task 1.2 - Assigned to Person 2
Story 2 – Area: Project 2
    Task 2.1 – Assigned to Person 3
    Task 2.2 - Assigned to Person 2
    Task 2.3 – Assigned to Person 1
    Task 2.4 - Assigned to Person 3
That way you could combine and plan all your stories in one iteration and track progress against iteration, and filter when needed by Area if you want to track progress by given project.

Let me know if the proposed solution will help you.

All the best,

Vesna,

This is a good suggestion. I will give this a shot. I'm loving your UI and customization options.
