The styler does not encompass other components of the RadGrid, such as DateTime, Dropdown list, Pager dropdown list...

Can that be integrated to this or is all that stuff supposed to be separate pieces ?

It makes sense to me it should all go together.

1.  Otherwise "the grid breaks"
2.  Have to go hunting for more pieces to style and fix
3.  Annoying...

Hello Dean,

True, there are many aspects of the grid skinning that are missing from the current interface. We plan on adding them as separate layouts in the interface, so that we don't pollute it with too many stylable parts.

So, we plan for the following workflow:
- select "Fine-tune" tab for the Grid
- several options appear (as tabs):
  • simple grid (currently this is available)
  • in-line editing and paging
  • hierarchical grid
  • grouped grid

The DateTime will be part of the Calendar styling options, and the Drop-down (I assume you are meaning RadComboBox) will have a separate section, too. These are going to be introduced regularly, and hopefully we'll add all of them before the Q2 release.

Sincerely yours,
Alex

I understand all the other controls each need their own styling with such a tool eventually.

However, you are promoting a Grid Styling.

Right now, your grid BREAKS if you style it, because the other controls don't auto-magically follow.  I wouldn't be able to Hand Off site styling to an artistic person without doing a SOFTWARE oriented and FUNCTIONAL QA pass on a grid after this tool touches it.

That's not cool, without up-front warning:  "Warning: this grid style is still not complete, you must now style a calendar and a combobox and an edit box, and a check box..."

Sheesh...  Disheartening.  "Thanks for all the automation there..."

:)

Know what I mean ?  If you can see it through to that degree with the grid, that would be a very good thing.

Truly cool.  Not just "sort of helpful a bit"

Take out just 2 or three more birds with this stone and then you've really got something.

Hi Dean,

The same procedures had to be followed when a custom skin had to be made without the style builder. It just simplifies the process of styling the specific controls; it does not simplify the overall skinning experience yet. In time, we'll improve it so that it integrates with the whole skinning workflow.

Indeed, there may be some scnearios left - but this really depends on what your control configuration is. The best way to outsource the skinning to a designer would be to specify what parts exactly you need skinned; the tool wouldn't know what controls you have on the page, for example an EditTemplate that includes a RadEditor.

All the best,
Alex
